Two-Close-Between

The official name we gave this project is Two-Close-Between, the name is derived from the actual constraints of the site's surroundings along with the functionality of the building.

The drivers for this project were problem solving privacy aspects whilst preserving views. This is a dual living home built on a small 450㎡ site, snug between two existing properties. The main objective was to retain the views of the ocean whilst maximizing privacy between the dual living and also from the surrounding homes, which are situated around all four sides of the site.

The dual dwelling is divided by one wall and a secret door, if the wall is removed the dwelling becomes a four-bedroom single family residence.

An aspect we are particularly proud of with this project is the amount of usable space we managed to achieve on such a small site, whilst creating spaces that do not interfere with the surrounding homes.

If there was any challenging process in this project, it would have been fitting a three level home onto a tight site that was surrounded by other homes on all sides. The design needed to suit the client but respect the neighbours in many aspects, which involved a lengthy design development process. Luckily design is what we live for though.

450m²의 작은 부지에서 두 개의 기존 건물 사이에 자리잡은 이 프로젝트의 이름은 건물의 기능성과 함께 대지가 가지고 있던 제약조건에서 유래한 것이다. 디자이너는 주택 내부에서의 시야를 보존하면서 프라이버시를 보호하는 데에 어려움을 겪었다. 주된 목표는 바다를 바라보는 시야를 유지하면서도 두 가정의 생활과 주변 주택들 사이에서 프라이버시를 극대화하는 것이었다. 두 가정을 위한 생활공간은 하나의 벽과 비밀문으로 나뉘어, 벽을 제거하면 방 네 개를 가진 단독주택이 된다.

이 프로젝트에서 건축가는 작은 대지에서 달성해낸 최대한의 가용공간과 동시에 주변 주택으로부터 간섭받지 않는 공간을 만들어낸 것을 가장 큰 성과로 생각한다. 사방이 다른 집들에 둘러싸인 좁은 집을 만드는 것이 아닌, 건축주에게 적합하면서 이웃을 존중하는 디자인을 만들기 위해 건축가는 오랜 개발 프로세스를 진행했다.
