A HOUSE IN SARDINIA

It is in the most characteristic elements of the Sardinian landscape that the site reveals its finest qualities, which are so many challenges to be overcome: the rugged terrain, the countless rocks, the wild inlet... Despite the length of the plot overlooking the coast, access to the sea was not made the most of by the site and it was only revealed from the sea. Because of the slope, this part of the garden was rather featureless and not at all welcoming. Based on these observations, the architect set her goal as the creation of a house whose volumes would not alter the site, but would serve to magnify it, in the finest tradition of Porto Cervo.

To design and build this house, the architect wanted it to be embedded in the site, exploiting all its features. The whole constitutes an architectural promenade in harmony and continuity with nature. The founding gesture of the project, the one that determines its location, is the plotting of two axes: one projected towards the sea, the other soaring towards the rocky cliffs. Their crossing allows for the articulation of different places important in the site and the layout on two levels, both seen as the ground floor.

The ground-floor level was hollowed out of the site. It creates a closer relationship with the sea and better use of the garden. A ledge path running along the sea reveals and enhances the waterfront of the site. The rooms are laid out around the main courtyard. The latter, surrounded by various volumes articulated on the site and the spaces of the house, is bathed in the late afternoon by the setting sun. The light is reflected on the façades that surround it and creates a bright core in the midst of the whole.

The main access to the house is in the courtyard. A door leading to a rather discreet hall serves two rooms on the ground floor and, upstairs, the living room, dining room, office and master suite.

The master suite is a spacious set of enclosed and open spaces in a rich sequence of events and atmospheres framing views of the natural setting: small courtyards, patios, terraces, bedrooms, dressing rooms and bathrooms. In particular, it has a U-shaped lounge open wide towards the sea and the small courtyard in the heart of the site. The living room develops in length, parallel to the sea. A large patio located on the north side of the courtyard forms a porch with access from the street. A staircase gives access to the roof, part of which is laid out as a terrace, the rest being covered with greenery, like the relationship between the very mineral house and its site. The small courtyard gives access to the “canyon”, seen as the backbone serving fascinating different nooks and corners of the site. A slope runs down from the living room to the east connects it with the lower level, completing a loop through an architectural promenade on the site.

거친 지형 속 사르데냐의 바다가 보이는 저택

샤르데냐 섬은 수많은 바위로 둘러싸인 거친 지형을 가진 곳이다.이 저택이 들어선 대지는 해안이 내려다보이는 거리임에도 불구하고, 바다에 직접 접근할 수 없고 오직 바다 조망만 가능한 곳이었다. 건축가는 포르토 체르보(Porto Cervo)의 아름다운 자연 안에 집이 풍경으로 확장되도록 만들어냈다.

집은 자연을 담고, 전체적으로 자연과의 조화와 연속성을 갖춘 건축적인 산책로를 가진다. 산책로는 요인은 두 개의 축으로 만들어졌는데, 하나는 바다를 향해, 다른 하나는 바위 절벽으로 치솟는 길이다. 두 산책로의 교차점에서는 이 대지에서 중요한 장소와 2층의 집을 1층에서 바라볼 수 있다. 한 곳은 부지 밖으로 연결되는 빈 공간이 있다. 바다를 따라 뻗어 있는 샛길은 이곳의 해안가를 드러내고 강화한다.

방은 안뜰 주변으로 배치되어 있다. 맨 끝에 있는 방은 부지와 집 안의 공간에서 표현되는 여러 가지 볼륨으로 둘러싸여 있으며, 늦은 오후에는 석양으로 물든다. 빛은 집을 둘러싸고 있는 외벽에 반사되어 중심에 밝은 중심 공간을 만든다. 집으로 들어가는 주 출입구는 안뜰에 있다. 다소 분리된 홀로 이어지는 문은 1층에 있는 2개의 방과 계단, 거실, 식당, 사무실 그리고 마스터 룸에서는 자연 환경을 조망할 수 있고, 다양한 이벤트와 환경을 풍부하게 하는 넓고 개방되면서 보호되는 공간이다. 특히, 바다를 향해 넓게 열린 U자형 라운지와 중심부의 작은 안뜰이 내려다 볼 수 있다. 거실은 바다와 나란히 긴 형태로 배치되어 있다. 안뜰의 북쪽에 위치한 파티오는 길가에서 접근할 수 있는 현관이다. 계단을 통해 옥상으로 바로 접근할 수 있으며, 계단 일부는 테라스로 연결되어 있고, 계단의 나머지 부분은 대부분 식물로 덮여 있다. 작은 안마당이 집의 척추라 할 수 있는 “협곡(Canyon)”에 접근할 수 있으며, 이곳은 부지의 다른 매력적인 공간과 연결된다. 거실에서 동쪽으로 내려가는 경사면은 아래쪽으로 연결되어 부지의 건축 산책로를 순환하도록 만든다.
