SBF TOWER

Commissioned by the duo of Southern and Bosera Funds back in 2010, the project was envisioned to contrast any high-rise in the vicinity because it is different. With its memorable design, based on an early sketch drawn by Hans Hollein in his time in Chicago, how skyscrapers should look in the future, it becomes a dominant statement within the high-rises, in an exposed corner position of the cluster. The office tower has a strategic position within the texture of the city. Adjacent to the Town Hall and its main North-South axis, and located on East-West oriented Shen Nan Avenue, it has the pole position in the central quarter in Shenzhen, where in midst the stock exchange building dominates.

The tower building in plan is a simple square of 45m x 45m, with 42 floors and an overall height of 200m and it features a total floor area of 80,500m² above ground.

A skirt building partially frames the tower in the base zone, where the entrance area, the public business hall and a high-class restaurant are located.

The tower building itself rises on top as a highly sculptured building with vertical gardens integrated in the architecture such giving the tower a very distinct appearance talking of alternative workstyle and sustainability. Vertically the tower is a layered structure featuring two different zones of 5 to 6 floors each which repeat alternating 3 and 4 times. One such zone has 6 identical floors with a square outer perimeter.

But the other zone of 5 floors is highly complex in its outer appearance:

Each individual floor is seemingly different; deep setbacks and far outreaching cantilevers interchange along the imaginary façade line and are overgrown with plants. These sky garden-levels also have the advantage that their purposely versatile outer appearance is very flexible and can easily answer individual situations. The main entrance lies in the north with a covered drive up. The materials used are elegant surfaces of stone and wood, glass and metals.

돌출되고 교차되는 볼륨들, SBF 타워 SBF 타워는 인근의 모든 고층 건물 중에서 독보적인 존재감을 가진 고층빌딩이다. 서던 앤 보세라(Southern and Bosera)증권 회사가 지었으며, 설계를 맡은 건축가 한스 홀레인이 시카고에 머물던 시절에 그린 미래의 마천루에 대한 스케치를 토대로 본 건축물의 강렬한 디자인이 제안됐다. 빌딩은 심천에서도 시청과 증권 거래소 건물이 밀집된 지역 가운데 세워져 도시적 맥락에서도 중요한 위치에 자리한다.

SBF 타워는 총 42개 층이며, 전체 높이는 200m, 가로세로는 각각 45m인 정사각형의 평면을 가진다. 건물은 반듯한 사각형의 평면이 수직적으로 상승하는 형태다. 기준층(Base Zone)에는 출입구, 공공 비즈니스 홀, 고급 음식점 등이 마련되어 있다.

건물은 그 자체로 수직적 정원을 이루는 잘 다듬어진 건물이 꼭대기까지 이어진다. 대안적인 업무 형태와 지속성이 고려되어 설계된 SBF 타워만의 차별화된 외관으로 나타난다. 타워는 위로 향하는 매스가 3번에 걸쳐 서로 다른 볼륨들이 교차된 모습을 하고 있다. 아래서부터 정사각형의 평면이 6개층으로 곧게 올라가다가 교차되는 볼륨이 각각 다르게 돌출된 형태로 5개의 층을 구성한다. 볼륨들의 교차는 많게는 6개층까지 나타나며, 단위의 서로 다른 두 볼륨이 수직적으로 겹쳐져 있다. 도시에서 SBF 타워를 바라봤을 때, 이 돌출된 부분의 형태가 복잡하고 특이하게 느껴질 것이다. 각각의 층은 보기에 서로 다른데, 건물 중심으로 세트백(Set-back) 되었거나 캔틸레버로 밖으로 내밀어져 있다. 이 교차된 볼륨들 곳곳에는 식재된 식물들이 층과 볼륨에 걸쳐 넓게 연결되어 있다. 하늘 정원이 있는 층에서는 원하는 곳의 풍경을 즐길 수 있는 다양한 크기의 전망 공간이 마련되어 있다.
