SIEEB, SINO-ITALIAN ECOLOGICAL AND ENERGY EFFICIENT BUILDING

The Sino-Italian Ecological and Energy-Efficient Building in the Tsinghua University campus is the result of a joint venture between the Italian and Chinese Governments. It covers an area of 20,000㎡ and houses the Sino-Italian center of education, training, and research for environment protection of and energy conservation. The building aims at showcasing the CO₂ emission reduction potential in China. The project integrates passive and active strategies to control the external environment and optimize interior comfort.

This U-shaped building wraps around a central courtyard. The public areas on the ground floor overlook the landscaped garden. The building is closed and well-insulated on the northern side, which is exposed to cold winter winds, and open and transparent on the southern side. The offices and laboratories on the upper floors have hanging gardens shaded by photovoltaic panels, which produce energy for the entire building.

청화대학교 환경공학과 빌딩, SIEEB

청화대학교 캠퍼스 안의 이 환경공학과 건물은 이탈리아와 중국 정부 간 합작 벤처의 결과물이다. 20,000㎡의 면적을 가지고 있으며, 환경 보존을 위한 중국과 이탈리아가 함께 진행하는 교육, 훈련, 연구를 위한 곳이다. 건물은 중국의 잠재 CO₂ 방출 절감을 보여주며, 본 프로젝트는 외부 환경을 조정하고 내부적인 편안함을 최적화하기 위해 수동적이고 능동적인 전략들을 통합시킨다.

건축물은 중앙 정원 주위를 감싸는 'ㄷ'자 형태로 설계됐으며, 1층의 공공 영역에서 조경 처리 된 정원을 바라볼 수 있다. 차가운 겨울 바람에 노출된 건물의 북쪽 면은 폐쇄됐으며 치밀한 단열 설계가 되어있고, 건축물의 남쪽으로는 투명하게 오픈되어 있다. 위 층의 사무실과 실험실은 건물 전체를 가동시키기 위한 에너지를 생성해주는 광전지 패널들이 곳곳에 설치되어 있으며, 곳곳에 식재들로 공중 정원들이 존재한다.
