NURSERY IN GUASTALLA

When design has a positive impact on education The new nursery school in Guastalla(Reggio Emilia) is the result of the project with which MC A had won the architectural competition held in 2013. The new facility replaces the existing two nursery schools that had been damaged by the earthquake in may 2012 and hosts up to 120 children aged 0 to 3 years.

The project aims at promoting children’s interaction with the surrounding space through an educational vision where everything – from the distribution of the classrooms to the selection of the construction materials and the integration between interiors and exteriors – is planned down to the finest detail.

The architectural elements of this nursery school – such as the shape and configuration of the interiors, the materials used, the sensory perception of light, colors, and sound, and tactile sensations – have been designed taking pedagogical and educational aspects of children’s development into account.

The facility was built using low-impact natural or recycled materials. The loadbearing structure consists of timber frames, which ensure efficient thermal insulation.

The high level of insulation and the optimal distribution of transparent surfaces, together with the use of cutting-edge rainwater harvesting systems and a photovoltaic system on the roof, help meet the school’s energy needs minimizing the use of mechanical equipment.

Little students have the chance to explore a complex yet familiar space where to develop their skills and abilities. Even the areas connecting the various classrooms and activity rooms are designed to trigger curiosity and pleasure with play areas, meeting spaces, niches, and transparent elements from where to look outside or peek at the other children’s activities.

The sinuous lines of the interiors lead to the sensory pathway outside, which wraps around the building without overwhelming it, creating protected spaces for the children, teachers, and parents.

목재로 지어진 구아스탈라의 보육원

디자인된 공간이 교육에 긍정적인 영향을 미칠 때 레조넬에밀리아의 구아스탈라 새 보육원은 2013년 진행된 건축설계공모전으로 선정된 마리오 쿠치넬라 아키텍츠의 계획안대로 지어졌다. 이 새로운 건축물은 2012년 5월 지진으로 피해를 입은 2개 보육원을 대체하는 곳으로, 0세부터 3세까지의 아이들을 대상으로 120명까지 수용 가능한 공간이다.

설계는 교육 공간을 만드는 것부터, 건축자재 선정, 인테리어와 외부와의 통합에 이르기까지 모든 것이 계획되어 있는 보육원의 교육비전을 통해 주변 공간과의 어린이 상호작용을 촉진하는 것을 목표로 진행됐다. 보육원의 공간 디자인은 교육적인 측면에서 세심하게 고려됐다. 공간의 모든 형태와 구성, 사용된 재료, 빛, 색, 소리의 감각적 지각, 촉각같은 것들은 아동의 감각과 발달을 자극한다.

또한, 천연 자재 또는 재활용 자재를 사용하여 지어졌다. 하중은 목구조로 구성되어 있어 효율적인 단열 효과까지 나타난다. 보육원 내에서 사용되는 에너지는 높은 단열재 수준과 투명 표면(햇빛의 수용), 최첨단 빗물 시스템, 지붕 광전지 시스템으로 조달된다.

이뿐만 아니라 보육원은 아이들의 능력을 발전시킬 수 있는 공간이기도 하다. 아이들은 보육원에서 복잡하면서도 익숙한 공간을 탐험하게 된다. 다양한 교실과 활동실을 연결하고, 바깥을 보거나 다른 아이들의 활동을 엿볼 수 있는 곳에서부터 놀이공간, 만남의 공간, 틈새, 투명한 요소들로 호기심과 즐거움을 촉발시킨다.

나무로 만들어진 물결같은 선들은 자연스럽게 바깥으로 감각을 이어지게 만들며, 건물을 압도하는 구조체가 아닌 감싸는 구조체로 어린이, 교사, 학부모를 위한 보호 공간을 만든다.
