House in Minamiyukigaya

Located in an alleyway off a shopping street, this property is closely bounded on the east by a road and on the south by a three-story apartment building. The building contains two independent residences—one for a mother and the other for her son and his family—which were designed with the possibility in mind of eventually turning them into rental units.

In order to bring as much light into the first floor as possible despite the apartment building on the south side, the first-floor roof slopes up steeply on that side and has a skylight along the elevated edge. On the second floor, this slope becomes a slanted wall extending the floor of the roof balcony upwards, thereby blocking visibility from the corridor of the adjacent apartment building.

Designing residential architecture in densely developed areas tests our ability as architects to respond both to the surrounding circumstances and the individual needs of the residents. In this case, we used an unusual three-dimensional form to respond to the contradictory demands of complying with building codes related to building height and obstruction of light and views, securing adequate privacy and distance from surrounding buildings, and effectively bringing light into the living spaces.

미나미 유키가야

쇼핑 거리 골목에 위치한 이 건물은 동쪽은 도로에 의해서 남쪽은 3층의 아파트에 의해서 거의 둘러싸여 있다. 건물은 결국 임대 가능성 있게 디자인됐고 어머니를 위한 공간과 아들과 그의 가족을 위한 다른 공간이 있는 두 개의 주요한 거주공간을 포함하고 있다. 남쪽에 있는 아파트에도 불구하고 가능한 한 많은 빛을 1층에 비추기 위해서 1층 지붕은 가파르게 경사져 있고 높은 가장자리를 따라 채광창이 있다.

경사가 위에 있는 지붕 발코니의 바닥을 연장시킨 기울어진 2층의 벽이 되므로 인접한 아파트의 복도로부터 시야를 막는다. 조밀하게 개발된 지역에서 주거용 건축을 디자인하는 것은 주변 환경과 거주자의 개인적 필요성 모두에 응답해야 하는 건축가의 능력에 대한 시험이다. 이 경우에는 건물 높이, 빛, 전망의 방해 등과 관련된 건물 코드를 준수하는 것, 주변 건물로부터 적절한 사생활과 거리를 보호하는 것, 효과적으로 삶의 공간에 채광을 가져오는 것에 대한 모순된 요구들에 응답하기 위해 독특한 3차원 형식을 사용했다.
