Cheongrangjae, a house full of clear and cheerful vibes with three generations living together

The site of Cheongrangjae is located at the corner of the housing area Seongnam Wirye New Town in Gyeonggi-do. The triangular shaped land has the advantages of a favorable view and light, but at the same time, it has a disadvantage in that it is exposed to the outside, which reduces privacy. In addition, most single houses in many residential complexes including this Wirye New Town do not have a yard because the space is used for a parking lot.

In such a situation, the architectural  arrangement that protects the privacy from the outside while securing the yard, which is the most attractive space of the single house, was reviewed from the initial stage. As a result, the “U” shaped court yard house was proposed as the most rational solution. The proper size of the courtyard in comparison with the size of the whole site enlarges the space in connection with the parking lot. The ground parking lot on the front roadside was planned as a multi-use area as well as a space for parking.

The parking lot functions not only to protect the privacy inside the building from the outside with general parking spaces but can also have various uses as needed. It can be used as a semi-public space by opening the folding door that is attached to contacted the overhead door in the front and the courtyard creating an outside space and an inside space.

The space from the public road, the parking lot to the courtyard, can become a huge area that could be used to hold events happening in the town. The second floor on the ground parking lot was planned as an outside terrace, ensuring maximum light in the courtyard. The master bedroom for the married couple in the rear on the second floor has a cool open view to the front. The entrance to the house is through a small garden on the front roadside, and a temporary wall was built on the front porch to create a semi-private space.

After entering the front door, the courtyard and an inner garden, which are not visible from outside, can be seen on both sides of the corridor. The sun-drenched courtyard lightens the inside of the house. The inner garden adjacent to the parents’ room on the ground floor is a special space prepared for the parents. It is closed to the outside to provide of privacy, but it is open to the sky and the courtyard.

Although the courtyard is not large, I hope that the client’s mother will enjoy planting flowers in this space. At the end of the corridor, the living room and the kitchen, which are common areas, are located on the innermost side of the house. The living room and the kitchen were planned to be integrated so that these spaces lappear far bigger. The second floor was designed as the private space for the married couple and their young daughter.

In the corridor facing the courtyard, a library with bookshelves was planned. In the middle of the library, which has enough sunlight, a window sear was built to allow easy reading and resting while looking at the courtyard. The upper part of the library was opened to the attic to increase the sense of space. The couple’s bedroom is located on the south side so they can see the courtyard and the outer terrace on the front road, and it has the best view and light. The daughter’s room was placed adjacent to the couple’s bedroom and colors appropriate for her age were used. The terrace on the front roadside is a landscaped space for relaxation and visiting with the family. The attic is the daughter’s space for play, study, and relaxation, and some of the walls are finished in pink colored glass.

3대가 함께 모여 사는 맑고(淸) 밝은(朗) 기운이 가득한 집 청랑재(淸朗齋) 청랑재의 대지는 경기도 성남 위례신도시 단독주택지 모퉁이에 위치한다. 모퉁이형 대지는 조망과 채광이 유리한 장점을 갖고 있지만, 동시에 외부로 노출되는 부분도 많을 수밖에 없는 단점을 가지고 있어 사생활 보호 면에서는 다소 불리하다. 그리고 위례신도시를 비롯한 많은 택지지구 내 단독주택들은 외부공간의 대부분을 주차장으로 할애하여 마당다운 마당을 갖고 있는 경우가 많지 않다. 그러한 상황에서 단독주택의 가장 매력적인 공간인 마당을 확보하면서 외부 환경으로부터 사생활을 보호할 수 있는 건축배치를 초기 단계부터 검토했고, 최종적으로 가장 합리적인 ‘ㄷ’자 형태의 중정형 주택을 제안했다. 전체 대지 대비하여 작지 않은 크기의 중정은 주차장과 연계하여 공간이 더 크게 확장된다.

전면 도로변에 계획한 지상 주차장은 단순히 주차를 위한 공간뿐 아니라 다양한 용도로 사용될 수 있도록 고려했다. 주차장은 주차기능과 함께 외부 환경으로부터 건물 내부의 프라이버시를 보호하는 역할도 하지만, 필요에 따라서 다양한 공간으로 활용할 수 있다. 전면의 오버헤드 도어와 중정과 면한 폴딩도어를 열면 외부이면서 내부인 공간이 되며, 반半 공적인 공간으로 사용될 수 있다. 공공의 도로, 주차장, 중정으로 이어지는 공간은 거대한 이벤트 공간이 되며, 마을의 행사가 이루어질 수 있는 가라지마켓(Garage Market) 등으로 활용될 수 있길 기대했다.

주차장의 2층은 외부 테라스 공간으로 계획해 중정의 채광을 최대한으로 확보하고, 2층 후면부 부부 침실에도 전면으로 시원스럽게 열린 조망을 갖도록 했다. 주택 진입부는 전면 도로변으로 작은 정원을 만들었고, 현관 앞은 포치 형태로 계획하고 낮은 가벽을 설치하여 반半 사적인 공간으로 구성했다. 현관을 들어서면 외부에서는 보이지 않던 중정과 안뜰이 복도를 기준으로 양쪽으로 나타난다. 채광이 잘되는 중정은 내부 공간 전체에 많은 빛을 보내 집안 전체를 밝게 만들어 준다. 1층 부모님 침실과 인접한 안뜰은 부모님을 위해 마련한 특별한 공간이다. 프라이버시를 고려해 외부로는 닫혀 있지만, 하늘과 중정을 향해 열려 있다.

안뜰은 크지는 않지만 이 공간에서 노모가 화초 등을 키우며 즐겁게 생활할 수 있길 기대했다. 복도 끝 주택의 가장 안쪽은 공용공간인 거실과 주방이 위치한다. 거실과 주방은 통합형으로 계획하여 공간이 훨씬 더 커 보이도록 했다. 2층은 건축주 부부와 어린 딸 아이의 사적인 공간 위주로 계획했다. 중정과 면한 복도에는 책장 형태의 라이브러리를 계획했다. 따듯한 햇볕이 드는 라이브러리 중심부는 중정을 바라보며 간단한 독서와 휴식이 가능하도록 윈도우 시트(Window Seat) 형태로 구성했다. 라이브러리 상부는 오픈해 개방감을 높였으며, 다락으로 공간이 연속되도록 했다.

부부 침실은 남측으로 중정과 전면도로면 외부테라스를 바라볼 수 있고, 채광과 조망이 가장 좋은 곳에 위치한다. 부부 침실과 인접하여 딸 아이의 방을 두고, 아직 어린 나이를 고려하여 약간의 컬러를 사용하여 유아적인 감성에 어울리도록 계획했다. 테라스는 전면 도로변으로 조경 공간이 계획된 온 가족의 휴식, 담소의 공간이다. 다락은 딸 아이의 놀이, 공부 및 휴식 공간으로 일부 벽은 연분홍 컬러유리로 마감해 다양한 활동이 이루어지도록 했다.
