JB HOUSE Project was a small house for couples who didn’t want to have a child so there were only 2 main users. The interesting fact was that each person had their own private world and were very different in lifestyle but could still acknowledge another person all the times.

Because a man loved to bake bakery and take photographs so his main uses was at kitchen island while a woman who worked in field of books and loved drawing wanted large working table for reading and writing. From the mentioned fact, the architects used the concept that both could acknowledge and see each other all the time even from their own area.

Because of small project site and cost limit, 2 main activity areas were divided into 2 floors. The woman took the upper floor while the man got the other one. The designers put the 2 main functions at the same vertical position and used glass for the top of the woman’s working table which created visual connection to the kitchen island below and allowed them to see each other while doing their own activities.

Furthermore, the upper floor was designed to have 3 connecting steps which block owner’s guest area to see the upper area but the owners’ favorite space still connected. All upper areas were covered with double wood screens which could be opened for privacy and heat protection. The design provided a gap between those openings in case of maintenance. Most walls at the upper floor were designed to be bookshelves for a book lover like her. Above them were skylights for walkway along the shelves.

JB 하우스 프로젝트는 아이를 갖기 원하지 않는 부부를 위한 작은 주택 프로젝트이다. 흥미로운 점은 부부 각자 그들만의 사생활의 세계를 가지고 있고 다른 생활방식을 가지고 있지만, 항상 상대방을 인식하며 바라보고 싶어한다는 것이다.

남자는 빵 굽는 일과 사진 찍는 것을 좋아하여 주로 부엌을 이용하는 반면, 여자는 도서 분야에서 일하며 그림 그리는 것을 좋아하여 읽고 쓸 수 있는 넓은 작업 책상을 원한다. 이러한 사실을 초점으로, 건축가는 서로를 바라볼 수 있으며 각자의 공간에서 각자 시간을 보낼 수 있는 것을 콘셉트로 적용하였다.

작은 대지와 예산의 제약으로 2개의 주 활동 공간은 2개 층으로 나뉘었다. 여자는 위층을 이용하고 남자는 나머지 공간을 이용한다.

건축가는 2개의 주 기능을 같은 수직적 위치에 배치하고 여자의 작업 공간의 상부에 유리를 사용하여 아래의 부엌과의 시각적 교류를 할 수 있도록 만들고, 각자의 활동을 하면서도 서로를 바라볼 수 있게 하였다.

뿐만 아니라, 상부 층에 3가지 교류 단계를 만들어 객실(게스트 공간)에서는 위층을 볼 수 없지만 그들이 가장 좋아하는 공간은 여전히 연결될 수 있도록 설계하였다.

위층 모든 공간은 이중 목재 스크린을 사용하여 열 보호와 프라이버시를 위해 열고 닫을 수 있게 하였다. 유지 차원에서 이 개구부 사이에 간격을 두었다. 위층의 모든 벽은 책을 좋아하는 그녀를 위해 책장으로 설계하였다. 그 위에는 책장을 따라 걸을 수 있는 채광을 위한 창이 있다.
