C House

The project is built over 2 plots of land located in the affluent and matured residential enclave of Damansara Heights, Kuala Lumpur. The average residential plot in the area has a lot size of 600㎡ with a standard double-storey house built in the 1980s. The houses were of a small built up and generic.

Over the years, many homes were sold, demolished and rebuilt to reflect the current needs. Houses with more rooms were built to accommodate larger family units of multiple generations. Standards of living were higher with the increased in property value. Local guidelines also provided for the increase in storey height, density and size of homes.

These conditions encouraged an extended period of transition to the surrounding site. The context were still in a state of flux with neighbouring homes putting up ‘for sale’ signs and some having just been transacted and new houses are being planned.

The approach for the design of C-House took all these into consideration and attempted to address the future context of its surrounding of what would be.

The young couple bought the 2 plots of land with the intention to build their home for their growing family. The house is to cater for their long term needs and is to have sufficient space and flexibility. A detailed and extensive design brief was discussed which includes rooms for grandparents, maid’s quarters, guest rooms and home offices as well as planning considerations to adhere to their specific ‘fung-shui’ placements, orientations and guidelines.

The design in essence consists of 2 rectilinear boxes that are places on top of one another but shifted out of alignment. This shifting of the boxes create a covered verandah along the ground floor and a terrace on the upper level.This shift also breaks the continuity of the vertical core, allowing for a secured control point and physical separation of the public and private spaces along the staircore.

C-House explores the idea of a modern minimalist form adopting the principles of tropical architecture and design. Principles of natural ventilation is achieved by restricting the building depth to ensure effective crossing of fresh air throught the house. Operable sliding windows and doors are located on opposite sides to allow for air to move through the building. Internal voids and staircases are designed as heat stacks to extract warm air upwards to be exhausted through openings above.

The front of house faces north-west (315N) and is considerably warm under a hot afternoon sun. To manage natural daylighting and avoid excessive heat gain, vertical sun shading elements are introduced along the north-west facade (front elevation). A landscaped garden provides shade on the south-western side.

C HOUSE

이 프로젝트는 쿠알라룸푸르 다만사라 하이츠(Damansara Highs)의 부유하고 발달된 주거 지역에 위치한 두 개의 대지 위에 건설되었다. 이 지역의 평균 주거 면적은 600㎡로, 1980년대에 지어진 2층짜리 주택들이다. 그 집들은 소규모로 지어졌고 일반적이었다. 수년에 걸쳐, 현재의 필요를 반영하기 위해 많은 집들이 팔리고, 철거되고, 재건축되었다. 다세대주택은 여러 세대의 대가족을 수용 할 수 있도록 지어졌다. 재산가치가 증가함에 따라 생활수준도 높아졌다. 또한 이 지역은 건축지침상 층고, 높이, 밀도, 및 주택 규모의 증가를 가져왔다. 이러한 조건들은 주변으로의 이주 장기화를 촉진했다. 주변 주택들이 '매각' 표지를 붙였으며, 일부 주택들은 막 거래되었고, 새로운 주택들이 계획되고 있는 가운데 상황은 여전히 유동적이었다. C-House의 설계에 대한 접근방식은 이 모든 것을 고려하여 미래 환경에 대한 내용을 다루려고 했다.

건축주인 젊은 부부는 그들의 성장하는 가족을 위한 집을 지을 목적으로 두 개의 땅을 샀다. 그 집은 그들의 장기적 필요를 충족시키기면서 충분한 공간과 유연성을 가져야 했다. 조부모, 가정부 숙소, 침실과 홈 오피스 뿐만아니라 풍수배치, 방향 및 지침을 준수하기 위한 고려 사항을 포함하는 상세하고 포괄적인 설계가 논의되었다.

본질적으로 설계는 일직선에서 벗어난 2개의 직선 상자로 구성되어 있다. 이러한 배치로 인해 1층에 지붕이 있는 베란다가 생기고, 위쪽으로는 테라스가 생겼다. 또한 이런 변화는 수직 코어의 연속성을 깨트리고, 계단을 따라 공용 및 개인 공간을 생성하면서 물리적으로 분리시킨다.

C-House는 열대지역의 건축 및 디자인 원리를 채택한 현대 미니멀리즘 형태의 아이디어를 탐구한다. 자연환기의 원리는 집안으로 신선한 공기가 효율적으로 통과 할 수 있도록 건물 깊이를 제한함으로써 이루어진다. 슬라이딩 창과 문은 건물에서 공기가 통할 수 있도록 반대편에 위치한다. 내부 보이드 공간 및 계단은 따뜻한 공기가 위로 올라가도록 하여 위쪽에 있는 창을 통해 배출되도록 설계되었다.
