Hakusangu-Shrine Ashiosha

Hakusangū Shrine is located next to a small mountain shrine to the god Ashinazuchi of Legs. When designing this place, called Ashiosha, where the god of Legs is enshrined, the designer chose to create an open and free space allowing visitors to follow a curving path rather than forcing them to follow a fixed linear path, even though the shrine's foundation is oriented toward the north and south. The shrine was built by intertwining thin trees and it beckons visitors through the wind blowing between the trees dappled with sunlight. Visitors will feel a sense of unity with the shrine by walking through the "Hora no Sandō," (approach to the cave) filled with softly curved trees behind the shapes of light and the god, and by stroking the "Itamitorishi," a stone that heals pain originally located within the shrine. This shrine allows visitors to feel a sense of oneness with the god and to take one step closer to the divine. It embodies how visitors can relate to the god.

하쿠상구 신사는 다리(Legs)의 신인 아시나주치를 모시는 작은 산의 큰 신사 옆에 있는 곳이다. 디자이너는 다리의 신을 모시는 장소인 “아시오샤”를 설계할 때, 신사의 축 혹은, 기반이 북쪽과 남쪽을 향해 있어도 방문객들이 신사로 가는 길에서 고정된 선형의 길을 따르는 것을 강요하기 보다는 개방되고, 자유롭게 따르도록 만들었다. 신사는 가느다란 나무를 엮어 지어졌으며, 방문객을 신사의 햇빛을 머금은 나무 사이로 불어오는 바람을 통해 발길을 이곳으로 이끈다. 빛과 신의 형상 뒤의 부드러운 곡선을 가진 나무들로 가득 찬 “호라 노 산도(동굴의 접근)”로 걸어가는 것과 원래 신사 내에 있던 “이타미토리시(고통을 치유해주는 돌)”를 쓰다듬는 것을 통해 방문객들은 신사에서 일체감을 느낄 것이다. 이 신사는 방문객들이 신사의 일부인 신을 느낄 수 있게 하며, 신과 함께 한 발자국 더 나아가게 한다. 이곳은 신사를 찾는 방문객들이 어떻게 신과 관련이 되는지를 형상화한 것이다.
