The name B382 was inspired by B612, the name of the asteroid in which the little prince lives in Saint-Exypéry’s novella. This house is a residential space for the rural life of the client, who has kept countless memories and time while moving several times within the city and living an apartment life. The architect wanted to gift a small and cozy “asteroid” where the little prince lives in the novella to the elderly couple, who were feeling the excitement and fear of a new beginning in a strange place.

The site also included a river site to the north side. Consequently, there were legal restrictions, and since the south side adjoined the foot of Cheonggyesan mountain, it had a rather disadvantageous aspect in terms of southern light. To solve these environmental constraints, the architect placed a mass that gradually becomes smaller along the east-west axis. The mass naturally continues from the entrance of the site through the front door to a secret garden.

As for the house, three rectangular masses formed along the shape of the site are combined in different sizes, and as the relationship between the land and the house varies, a complementary relationship between the interior and exterior is established. The crown-shaped roof that joins these forms into one continues with the ridges of the mountains in the distance, allowing it to permeate into the surrounding background, and as it encircles the two terraces with different directions, it makes it exist as a space that fully embraces the scenery of the mountain, garden and river.

The programs of the interior space were planned so that most aspects of their lives could take place on the first floor, considering the residential environment of the elderly couple. The second floor was planned as a small and cozy space with a guest room and a small living room. On the first floor, there is a utility room with spacious storage as well as a supplementary kitchen, and the study for the husband faces the garden along with the bedroom with a bathroom and dressing room.

Furthermore, the living room surrounded by three sides of tall windows that profoundly embrace the hillside scenery is a space where the couple can relax while looking at the colorful lights and landscape, and this openness can extend to the kitchen. The interior staircase, which includes the bathroom, is the boundary that separates the master bedroom, living room, front door, kitchen and second-floor guest room, and the corridor on the second floor connects the two rooftop terraces each provided on the east and south sides, allowing the free circulation between the exterior and interior.
