Dain Building is a complex facility of a music hall and a medical mall in downtown Daegu City. In accordance with the intention of the client, who wanted to contribute to medical care and culture on Daegu, we though about the theoretical ways of creating a local landmark. In general, landmarks are described with 4 characteristics: 'Symbolism', ’Semiotic nature', 'Awareness' and 'Placeness'. Since placeness is motlty given from the site, we decided to concentrate on 'Symbolism', ’Semiotic nature' and 'Awareness' for this project. The medical mall was placed to the lower part and the music hall was arranged on the top floor, giving special meaning to the music hall itself, which can be found by anyone. When people gather and interact through awareness and increase the opportunities of it standing out, it becomes a landmark with strong symbolism. With the structure that elevates the music hall rather than the medical mall as a distinctive external appearance, it was considered an architecture where the music hall itself becomes a symbol. These symbols imply a 'Semiotic nature' that can be perceived as a landmark.

At night, as a landmark with high awareness (visibility) that is easily visible from many places through the floating music hall and structure lighting, it will provide visitors with a special experience of looking at the streets of Daegu while listening to music.

다인 빌딩 음악홀, 메디컬센터(계획안)

이 계획은 대구 시내에 있는 음악홀과 메디컬센터의 복합건물이다. 지역의 의료와 문화에 기여하기를 희망하는 건축주의 의향에 맞추어 지역의 랜드마크를 창출하는 수법을 이론적으로 생각해 보기로 했다. 일반적으로 랜드마크는 ‘상징성’, ‘기호성’, ‘인지성’, ‘장소성’의 4가지 성격으로 설명된다. 장소성은 대지와 관련이 깊어 여기에서는 설계 대상을 ‘상징성’, ‘기호성’, ‘인지성’으로 했다. 의료 몰은 아래층, 음악홀은 최상층에 배치하고 누구나 방문할 수 있는 음악홀에 특별한 의미를 부여했다. 이것에 의해 사람들이 모여 교류함으로써 사람들의 눈에 자주 띄고 사람들의 주목을 받는 상징성 있는 랜드마크를 만든다. 메디컬센터보다 음악홀을 떠받치는 구조체 프레임을 외부에 노출함으로써 음악홀 자체가 아이콘이 되는 조형물로 계획했다. 이것으로 랜드마크의 인지를 촉진하는 표식을 가진 ‘기호성’이 있는 건축을 계획했다.

밤에는 공중에 떠 있는 음악홀과 구조체의 조명으로 많은 곳에서 쉽게 볼 수 있는 인지성(시인성)이 높은 랜드마크가 되고 방문객에게 음악을 들으면서 거리풍경을 볼 수 있는 특별한 체험을 제공한다.
