OBAMA TOURIST INFORMATION CENTER

This is a tourist information center with a commercial space in Obama City, Fukui Prefecture. An open architecture that serves as a starting point for sightseeing or strolling was required at the intersecting point of the district with historic streets in the west and central facilities gathered in the east. For the roof, three materials; metal, tiles and glass were used to allow it to harmonize with the historic streetscape that continues from the west, and it can be accessed from anywhere under the roof that has a symbolic design of continuous small roofs. The extending and shrinking awning create a boundary with the adjacent plaza. In everyday life, the small resting area below the eaves forms an atmosphere like a busy street lined with alleys, and when there are events, it becomes a place that utilizes the interior and exterior integrally and continually.

By using small and light materials for the pillars and beams, the sense of scale of a small machiya (traditional Japanese shophouse) was given to the interior and details. With the delicate structure formed by the small and light materials and the combination of roofs that continue like a shopping district, an appearance of a building that harmonizes with the traditional cityscape without overwhelming the surrounding even though it is a large architecture was proposed.

오바마시 관광센터

후쿠이현, 오바마시에 있는 상업 공간 겸 관광 안내소다. 서쪽의 역사적 거리와 동쪽의 도시 중심시설이 모여 있는 교차점에 관광과 산책의 기점이 되는 열린 건축이 요구됐다. 서쪽에서 이어지는 역사적 거리와 어울리도록 금속, 기와, 유리의 3가지 재료의 연속된 작은 지붕으로 어디에서나 접근할 수 있도록 만들고, 크고 작은 처마로 인접한 광장과 경계를 형성한다. 처마가 짧은 곳은 일상적으로는 주택이 즐비한 활기 있는 분위기를 만들고, 행사가 있을 때 내부와 외부를 연결하여 하나의 공간으로 활용한다. 기둥과 보를 가늘게 하여 내부나 정교한 부분까지 작은 규모의 주택으로 느껴지도록 만들었다. 작고 가는 재료의 섬세한 구조와 연속되는 지붕에 의해 규모가 큰 건물이라고 주변에 압박감을 주지 않고 전통적인 경관과 조화를 이루는 건축을 제안했다.
