The site is located at the side of a road to Ganghwa-do. Although it is a small plot, it is a place where people who visit can comfortably rest. The interior, in which people who have left the city feel calm and quiet for a while, has a simple building structure. In this space, there is a circulation that cycles the building as well as an axis that shows the direction, and after passing through the yard space that becomes the entrance, a passage leading to the building at the back appears. One has to completely exit this building in order to see the entire building behind it at a glance. The small paths between the buildings are spaces to slowly look around rather than paths leading to the destination, and small gardens to stop by midway are formed. Each circulation contains the appearance of the constantly changing nature as the light shining through the eaves and the shadows that change over time hit the concrete walls. When it rains, the rainwater that falls through the gaps adds to the beauty.

This building, which connects with the sloped land under the mountain, looks like it overlaps the building behind it, and so the overall form is a simple single-story building in order to naturally harmonize with the building at the back, which extends in a straight line. The uniform height of the building’s roof changes the height of the space as the stairs descend. There was nothing more than exposed concrete and some metal for the overall exterior finish. The artificial aspects are only expressed as monotonously as possible with the thick and nimble weight, and other than that, only the light, shadows, plants and people standing in the space can be filled. Matching the form of the building as well as the name ‘gap’, the light and shadow that permeate into the building, and the cloudy weather and rain make the space more colorful and determine the atmosphere of that space. Moreover, only when they are revealed strongly do they make one focus on the beauty of nature that has been carelessly overlooked. Architects contain nature with the simple background of concrete and maximize these changes. The trees, which are placed throughout the land, are reused trees that have been growing on the land before construction, and they contrast with the hard concrete background.

빛과 그림자, 날씨가 담기는 공간, 진정성 카페 - 틈

대지는 강화도로 가는 도로가에 있다. 작은 땅에 이곳을 찾는 사람들이 천천히 머물 수 있는 장소가 들어섰다. 도시를 떠나온 사람들이 잠시 차분하고 조용한 감정을 느끼도록 단순하지만 흥미로운 건물 구조를 가진다. 이 공간엔 건물을 순환하는 동선과, 방향을 띄는 축이 있는데, 입구가 되는 마당공간을 지나가면 뒤에 있는 건물로 향하는 통로가 나타난다. 뒷 건물의 전체적인 모습을 한 눈에 보려면 이 건물을 완전히 빠져나가야 한다.

건물 사이사이의 작은 길들은 목적지를 향한 길이 아니라 천천히 둘러보는 공간이며, 중간에 멈추어 가는 작은 정원이 조성되어 있다. 각각의 동선에는 처마 사이로 떨어지는 빛과 함께 시간에 따라 변하는 그림자들이 콘크리트 벽면에 부딪히면서 시시각각 변하는 자연의 모습이 담긴다. 비가 오면 틈사이로 내리는 빗물이 공간의 운치를 더한다.

산 아래 언덕진 땅과 이어지는 본 건물이 뒤에 있는 건물과 같이 겹겹이 보이는데, 일자로 길게 뻗어있는 뒷 건물과 함께 자연스럽게 어울리기 위해 전체적인 형태는 단층의 단순한 건물이다. 일정한 건물의 지붕 높이는 아래로 계단을 내려가면서 공간의 높이를 다르게 만든다. 외부마감은 전체적으로 노출콘크리트와 약간의 금속 외엔 아무것도 없다. 최대한 단조롭게, 두껍고 날렵한 무게감으로만 인공적인 것을 표현하고, 그 외엔 빛과 그림자, 그리고 식물 또 그 공간 안에 서있는 사람들로만 채워질 수 있다.

이 공간은 건물의 형태와 ‘틈’이라는 이름에 맞도록, 건물로 스며드는 빛과 그림자, 그리고 흐린 날씨와 비는 보다 공간을 다채롭게 하고, 그 공간이 갖는 분위기를 결정한다. 그리고 그것이 강하게 드러날 때 비로소 무심코 지나쳤던 자연이 주는 아름다움에 관심을 가지도록 만든다. 건축가는 콘크리트라는 단순한 배경으로 자연을 담아내어 이런 변화를 극대화한다. 중간중간에 배치된 나무들은 공사 전에 그 땅에서 원래 자라던 나무들이 재활용된 것으로, 딱딱한 콘크리트 배경과 대비되는 구불구불한 가지의 모양과 식재의 질감이 대비된다.
