The Mask House is a two-storey dwelling that grounds its presence by embracing juxtapositional qualities in order to set an example for its neighbourhood which is undergoing a rapid gentrification. Once you enter the house you are greeted at the foyer-cloakroom, while small in plan, it offers a generous two&half-storey space merging into the staircase shaft with a skylight on the very top. Together, they serve as a reference point in the house. This is followed by a large open space that combines kitchen, dining and living rooms with access to the back yard.

The floor below offers a party room with a kitchenette that could be easily converted into an independent guest suite with its own entrance to the outside. The second floor accommodates the master bedroom with an en-suite and the kids’ bedrooms with their shared bathroom. In plans, following a strict logistic order, the house withstands a humble and disciplined arrangement, meanwhile it becomes playful in the section. The south-west corner of the house has been offset half a floor to create three mezzanines, each as an independent multi-purpose space, semi-separated yet within the whole envelope, linked by the staircase to the rest of the house. These three areas allow flexible use.

마스크 하우스

마스크 하우스는 급격한 젠트리피케이션을 겪고 있는 지역에 위치한 2층 주택이다. 집에 들어서면 현관의 휴대품 보관소가 먼저 맞이하는데, 평면적으로는 작지만 맨 꼭대기에 채광창이 있는 계단 통로와 합쳐지는 넉넉한 2.5층 높이의 공간을 제공한다. 이것들은 집 안에서 기준점 역할을 한다. 그리고 부엌, 식당, 거실과 뒷마당 출입이 가능한 넓고 개방된 공간이 이어진다.

아래층에는 작은 부엌이 딸린 파티룸이 있으며, 외부 출입구가 있는 독립된 게스트 스위트룸으로 쉽게 전환할 수 있다. 2층에 주 침실이 있고 아이들의 침실에는 공용 화장실이 있다. 평면에서 집은 엄격한 논리적 순서를 따르면서 단순하고 잘 정렬된 배치를 가지면서도 단면에서는 장난스러움이 드러난다. 집의 남서쪽 코너는 각각 세 개의 중이층을 만들기 위해 반 층을 상쇄하였는데, 각각 독립된 다목적 공간으로서 반 분리되어 있으면서도 집의 나머지 부분과 계단으로 연결되어있다. 이 세 가지 영역은 유연성 있게 사용 가능하다.
