This house is for the present head of Hwasumok Village community. The lot is facing southeast and has an 8-meter long slope which is relatively gentle compared to the overall steepness of the entire community site. When the development plan was established, it was a densely forested mountain area, and there still were traces (low-rise ridges marked with stones which was dug out when reclaiming the mountain into a field) indicating that it used to have terraced paddy fields a long time ago. Therefore, the proposed building is positioned to make efficient use of these traces without damaging them and offer a beautiful view of the area through its backyard.

The garage is positioned at the highest spot where the site is bordered by the road, so that people can reach the house by climbing only a small number of stairs. As for the front yard, it was difficult to give a particular function other than the one that makes the building look more open toward the road.

Therefore, the building is put in front to increase the usability of the backyard. The 1st floor has a large space to allow many people to gather together, and it can be used as a multipurpose room. Also, if one walks up 1m via the staircase, he can find a small kitchen and a bedroom. This bedroom on the 1st floor has access to the garden on top of the garage and thus provides a good view. The 2nd floor has a living room, kitchen and master bedroom, and the kitchen has access to the backyard through a utility room. A large window is installed in the en-suite bathroom of master bedroom so that people can enjoy the view in the bathtub.

화수목주택(31)

이 집은 지금 화수목마을 이장님 댁이다. 화수목마을의 전체적인 대지의 경사도로 볼 때 비교적 완만한 경사지라고 할 수 있는 8m 정도의 경사도가 있는 남동향의 대지로, 계획 당시에는 수목이 우거진 산지였지만 오래 전에는 다랭이 밭으로 사용했던 흔적(산을 밭으로 일구면서 골라낸 돌들로 경계를 표시했던 낮은 밭두렁)이 남아있는 대지였다. 그래서 그 흔적들을 지우지 않고 최대한 활용하고자 건물을 배치했고 뒷마당을 통해 그 부분의 아름다운 모습을 즐길 수 있도록 했다.

대지와 도로가 접한 가장 높은 위치에 주차장을 배치하여 적은 계단 오름을 통해 주택으로 진입할 수 있도록 했고, 앞마당의 경우 도로에서의 개방감이 커 보여주기 위한 마당 외의 기능을 갖기가 어려워 뒷마당의 사용성을 높이기 위해 건물을 전면 배치했다. 1층에는 여러 사람이 모일 수 있는 넓은 공간을 두어 다용도 공간으로 활용할 수 있는 실이 있고, 계단실을 통해 1m를 오르면 간이 주방과 침실이 있다. 1층 침실은 주차장 상부의 정원을 이용할 수 있고, 전망을 즐길 수 있다. 2층에 거실과 주방 안방이 있고, 주방에서 다용도실을 통해 뒷마당과 연결된다. 안방과 연결된 화장실엔 큰 창을 두어 욕조에서 전망을 즐길 수 있도록 했다.
