The house gazes at the street and the neighbourhood through the eyes of the two symmetrical windows, punctured on the mass cantilevered above the main floor, which resembles a face sneaking forward.

The Gazing House originates from the two squares divided by the central circulation axis. This abstract formal system establishes a sense of order which unifies all the interior spaces into one, while within the same two squares, various room configurations can be made to accommodate the need of each floor.

The central staircase organizes the programs binarily throughout all floors, being a transitional point not only vertical but also horizontal. The lot is oriented east-west, which allows limited sunlight to enter the house through the front and the back. At certain moments, sunlight reaches all the way to the basement from the roof ceiling, generating a sense of spatial connection across the floors.

In the inside, one encounters the windows, the “eyes” to the outside, in various moments of the routine. Whether on a bed looking out towards the balcony window on the other end, or on the work station on the second floor looking out towards the backyard, or on the staircase to the third floor looking up at the skylight directly above it, the views are framed by architectural elements at specific points and within the order of the house. These “Gazes” towards the outside are interestingly mirrored in the gazing face of the house, which truly identifies with the life of the inside.

게이징 하우스

이 집은 메인 층 위의 캔틸레버 매스에 구멍이 뚫린 두 개의 대칭 창문을 통해 거리와 동네를 바라보고 있는데, 이는 앞으로 몰래 다가가는 얼굴과 닮았다.

게이징 하우스는 중앙의 수직 동선으로 구분된 두 개의 사각형에서 시작한다. 이 추상적인 형식 체계는 모든 내부 공간을 하나로 통합하는 균형감을 확립하는 동시에 동일한 두 사각형 내에서 각 층의 필요를 수용하기 위해 다양한 실내 구성을 만든다.

중앙 계단은 모든 층에 걸쳐 프로그램을 두 부분으로 구성하여 수직뿐만 아니라 수평으로 전환시킨다. 동서향으로 위치해 있어 적은 일조량이 앞과 뒤를 통해서 집안 내부로 들어간다. 특정 순간에는 햇빛이 지붕 천장에서 지하까지 비추며, 모든 층을 가로질러 연결된 공간감을 형성한다.

이 집의 내부에서는 다양한 일상 순간에서 외부로의“ 눈” 인 창문을 맞닥뜨린다. 한쪽 끝의 발코니 창을 바라보는 침대에서든, 뒤뜰을 바라보는 2층의 작업실에서든, 또는 바로 위의 채광창을 직접 올려다보는 3층 계단에서의 시야는 건축 요소에 의해 특정 지점과 집의 질서 안에서 틀이 잡혀있다. 외부를 향한 이 “시선들(Gazes)”은 외관에 흥미롭게 반영된다.
