다락방에 대한 인식은 매력적인 특성으로 인해 두드러진다. 다락방은 지붕 위에 떠 있는 높은 장소이며, 거리에서도 부분적으로 볼 수 있는 구조로 접근하기가 쉽지 않으며 때로는 보헤미안 생활 방식과 관련이 있다. 다른 층과는 매우 다른 다락방의 공간 구성은 일반적으로 칸막이가 거의 없고 경사진 지붕으로 되어 있으며 천장 높이가 낮은 넓은 공간이 특징인 도시 계획 규정에 맞춰져 있다. 이곳은 마드리드 중심에 1900년에 건축된 엘리베이터 없는 6층 건물로, 42㎡ 규모의 1층은 카사 플릭스(casa flix) 소유주인 로베르토(Roberto)의 집으로, 칼라오(Casao) 광장과 매우 가깝다.

집의 초기 레이아웃은 10x4m 크기의 직사각형 방(중앙에 벽난로 포함)과 3x3m 크기의 정사각형 방으로 구성된 두 개의 방으로 이루어져 있다. 두 곳에 모두 경사진 지붕이 있지만 서로 다른 방향으로 경사가 있다. 이 집의 최소한의 공간에서 계획에 따른 사용을 위해 생활 공간을 유연하고 다양하며 밝은 장소로 만들기 위해 노력했다. 이를 위해 집은 공간을 4개의 영역으로 설계되었다. 침실과 드레싱룸, 현관, 작업 공간과 욕실, 주방과 거실, 다이닝룸이 북쪽에서 남쪽으로 물리적, 시각적으로 이어진다. 욕실은 집의 중심을 차지하며 원자화 된 형태로 설계되었다. 90cm 폭의 세면대와 변기가 샤워실과 따로 놓여 있다. 다양한 프라이버시 정도에 따른 영역 간의 연결 외에도 집의 유용한 높이를 최대한 활용하는 데 도움이 된다. 세면대와 화장실은 2.10m 높이의 거울로 마감된 공간에 있으며, 그 중 하나에 있는 숨겨진 문을 통해 입구에서도 들어갈 수 있다. 거울 캐빈은 공간을 확장하는 동시에 도어가 반쯤 열려 있는지, 열려 있는지, 닫혀 있는지에 따라 다양한 반사가 이루어지며 시각적 효과를 드러낸다. 입구는 길이 8.20m의 긴 공간으로 외부 공간에는 집으로 들어갈 수 있는 테라스가 있고 내부 공간은 금속 선반과 원형 창문이 있는 파란 터널이다. 바다위에 떠있는 배의 내부를 재현한 듯한 공간이다. 표준 시장 측정을 통해 가구와 선반, 문을 결합하여 제작한 적층형 HPL 울트라 무광 연한 노란색 색상의 아담한 벽은 집의 가장 어두운 부분을 밝게 하고 건축 비용을 절감시켜주었다.

밤에는 집이 다르게 바뀐다. 샤워 부스는 집안 공간 전체를 밝히는 랜턴이 되고 마치 웨스 앤더슨 영화사의 세트 디자인처럼 같다. 가벼운 가구와 간접조명으로 카사플릭스는 커다란 경사진 지붕 아래에 떠 있는 것처럼 보인다. 고요히 침대에 누워 지붕의 창을 통해 Gran Via에 있는 국회의사당 건물의 상징적인 슈웹스(Schweppes)에 적힌 ‘마드리드에서 천국으로’라는 문구를 보고 있으면 문구 그대로 느끼게 된다. 아파트의 자연 채광 및 공기 순환을 최대화하기 위해 지붕창을 침실과 거실에 각각 하나씩 더 추가하였다. 또한, 아파트 출입문의 경우도 문을 닫으면 빛이 통과할 수 있도록 투명한 유리문으로 교체하였다. 집 안의 가구들은 1x1m 크기의 자기를 길게 늘어뜨린 바닥에 배치되어 있으며 작지만 정밀하다. 테이블, 소파, 침대, 의자 4개는 집의 다양한 공간을 표현하고 오브제 시스템을 기반으로 방안의 멋진 그림을 만들어 낸다.

The current perception of attics in city centers stands out for their potentially attractive character: they are elevated places, floating above the roofs, structures partially visible from the street, not very accessible and sometimes associated with a bohemian lifestyle. The spatial configuration of the attic, very different from the rest of the floors of the building, responds to urban planning regulations that generally are characterized by the arrangement of sloping roofs and large rooms with few partitions and a low ceiling height. This is the home of Roberto, the owner of the casa flix, a 42m2 first floor flat located on a sixth floor without elevator in a building in the center of Madrid, built in 1900, very close to the busy Callao square.

With an initial layout of the house organized in two rooms, a rectangular one of 10x4 meters (with a fireplace in the middle) and a square one of 3x3 meters, both with sloping roofs but with slopes in different directions, this house of minimum dimensions seeks to make the living space an optimal, flexible, diverse and bright place from its use in plan, but especially from the occupation of the section. For this purpose, a house is designed to be divided into four spatial areas: four successive rooms connected physically and visually that correspond, from north to south, with the bedroom/dressing room, the entrance, the workspace/bathroom and the kitchen/living/dining room. The bathroom occupies the heart of the house and is designed in an atomized form, that is, making the sink and toilet independent of the shower in a width of 90 centimeters; this operation facilitates the maximum use of the useful height of the house, in addition to its articulation in areas with different degrees of privacy. The washbasin and toilet are concealed in a closed volume paneled with 2.10-meter-high mirrors, which is accessed from the entrance through a secret door located in one of them. This strategically placed mirrored cabin enlarges the space while offering a multitude of different reflections and visuals depending on whether the door is half-open, open, or closed. The entrance is a tall and elongated space of 8.20 meters in length, with an exterior part that is a terrace through which the house is accessed, and an interior part that is a blue tunnel that has a metal shelf and circular window; a space that tries to recreate the interior of a ship on the high seas.

At night, the house is transformed. The shower cubicle becomes a lantern that illuminates the entire domestic space and, as if it were a set design for a Wes Anderson film, the casa flix, with its light furniture and indirect lights, seems to float under a large sloping roof. And so, from the bed, with all the silence and through one of the roof windows, you can see the iconic Schweppes sign of the Capitol building on Gran Via that takes us, literally, from Madrid to heaven. To increase the maximum entry of natural light and ventilation in the apartment, in addition to the existing roof windows two more are added, one in the bedroom and one in the living room. The access door to the apartment is replaced by a transparent glass door that allows light to pass through when the door is closed. The furniture in the house is arranged on a continuous 1x1 meter porcelain floor and is small but precise. A table, a sofa, a bed and four chairs form a landscape based on a system of design objects that articulate and qualify each of the different spaces of the house.
