이번 작업은 부에노스아이레스 자치시 발바네라(Balvanera) 인근의 1930년대 문화재 등록 건물에 있는 32㎡ 규모의 아파트에서 이루어졌다. 유닛의 기존의 모습은 연결이 잘 되지 않은 일련의 방을 제시하고 있었기 때문에 공간 전체에 자연 채광이 최대로 들어오도록 하고 기존 프로젝트의 형태를 복구하는 동시에 ‘같은 공간에서 생활하고 일한다.’라는 현대 생활 방식에 적응한다는 목표로 작업이 진행되었다.

아파트의 목적은 텍스타일 디자이너를 위한 영구적인 주택과 전문 작업 공간을 수용하는 것이었고, 이를 위해서는 공간을 유연하게 사용할 수 있어야 하고 적절한 저장 공간이 필요했다. 이를 위해 구역을 새롭게 구성하고 전체 높이를 차지하며 다양한 수납이 가능할 뿐만 아니라 요리, 위생 등의 활동을 수용할 수 있는 세 개로 구성해야 했다. 그 중 하나는 욕실 공간을, 다른 하나는 주방 공간을, 다른 하나는 삼중 기능을 담당하여 거실 및 작업 공간과 도서 저장 공간으로 사용하였다. 주방 공간에 인접한 곳의 일부 가전제품을 침실을 향해 배치하고 침실을 아파트의 나머지 부분과 분리할 수 있는 투 포지션 문으로 보완하여 드레스룸의 기능도 하도록 하였다.

재료는 천장 철거 및 제거 후에 발견된 기존 텍스처를 그대로 사용하였다. 노출된 벽돌은 벽에 남겨졌고, 거푸집에서 나온 나무의 흔적은 건물의 기존의 몰딩 뿐만 아니라 천장과 기둥의 콘크리트에도 그대로 남아 있었다. 이 모든 재료는 흰색을 사용하여 점차 퍼트려 나가며 미묘한 질감의 변화를 강조하고 있다. 바닥은 매끈한 마이크로시멘트를 도포하여 이어지게 만들었다. 또한 폴리카보네이트와 같은 반투명 소재를 사용하여 시각적 필터링을 통해 빛이 아파트 전체를 통과할 수 있도록 했으며, 따뜻함을 제공하는 저장 모듈도 사용했다. 욕실의 경우 외부는 오팔린 유리, 내부는 폴리카보네이트로 시공하여 열교차단기 역할을 하고 증기 응결을 방지하는 동시에 빛의 유입을 유지하도록 했다.

결론적으로, 이 아파트에서 이루어진 작업을 통해 공간의 통합을 강화하였고 공간 전체로 자연 채광이 들어오고 유연성과 저장공간도 최대로 하였다. 사용된 재료는 건물의 역사를 존중하는 동시에 작업시 따뜻함과 빛을 더하고 현대적인 요소를 도입하였다.

The intervention is carried out in a 32m2 apartment in a heritage-listed building from the 1930s in the Balvanera neighborhood, in the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires. The preexisting organization of the unit presented a series of poorly articulated rooms, so work was done with the objective of maximizing the entry of natural light throughout the unit and recovering the footprint of the original project, while adapting to the modes of contemporary living, like living and working in the same space.

The purpose of the apartment was to house a permanent home and professional development space for a textile designer, which required the unit's flexibility and adequate storage space. To this end, three pieces were designed that organize the new configuration of the department and take up almost its entire height, capable of housing various storage spaces, as well as activities such as cooking and hygiene, among others. One of them defines the bathroom space, another the kitchen space and another is responsible for having a triple function, providing a library-storage towards the living-work space, housing some appliances adjacent to the kitchen space, while towards the bedroom. It is responsible for functioning as a dressing room, complemented by a two-position door that allows the bedroom to be isolated from the rest of the apartment.

The catalog of materials is defined by the integration of pre-existing textures, discovered after the demolition and removal of the ceilings. The exposed brick was left on the walls and the trace of the wood from the formwork was preserved in the concrete of the ceiling and columns, as well as the original moldings of the building. All these materials became homogeneous starting from the color white, highlighting the subtle variations of the textures. The floor was made continuous by applying smoothed microcement. In addition, translucent materials such as polycarbonate were used to filter the visuals, allowing light to pass through the entire apartment, as well as guatambú storage modules that provide warmth to the intervention. In the case of the bathroom, we worked with opaline glass on the outside and polycarbonate on the inside, operating as a thermal bridge breaker and preventing steam condensation, while preserving the entry of light.

In conclusion, the intervention carried out in this apartment has allowed greater integration of spaces, the entry of natural light throughout the unit and the maximization of its flexibility and storage capacity. The material palette used respects the history of the building and at the same time introduces contemporary elements that provide warmth and luminosity to the intervention.
