Sonofelice Del Pino Hotel, located in Hongcheon, Gangwon-do, is a project that started from a plan to create a space where one can find and enjoy relaxation in the architecture within nature, overlooking the marvelous view of Seoraksan Mountain and Ulsan Rock, which represent Korea’s nature. The architecture consisting of 10 stories and two volumes, East and West, has a structure in which the two buildings are connected through a bridge. The 10th floor consists of the reception desk, lobby, and lounge for check-in. The rooftop floor has an infinity pool, the basement floor has a Golf Academy Zone, and the hotel has 211 rooms of 4 types. Visitors to the hotel will move to each of their spaces through the check-in lounge located on the 10th floor, and as soon as they get off the elevator on the 10th floor, they encounter the majestic view of Seoraksan Mountan and Ulsan Rock.
As they are Korea’s representative sites, we thought that it should be a space that contains local sentiments more than any other space. Consequently, we thought that everything in completing the composition and details of the space had to be done within one sentimental context, and each space was designed to maintain their originality and uniqueness. The reception desk, lobby, and lounge for check-in on the 10th floor were separated by arranging the floor stepping zones and natural stones together around the central architectural pillar. In addition, each of the circular pillars and colonnade that were designed along with the lighting was made to have a structural function as well as exist as an objet at the same time. In particular, the ceiling height of the lobby and lounge differs by about 1m based on the colonnade due to the structural reasons of the rooftop infinity pool. This condition allowed us to develop a design that provides the expandability of the space’s vision by using the inclination angle step difference.
The ceiling of the lobby and lounge were intended to be completed with the outlines and morphological aesthetics of the restrained curves, and the circular ceiling connecting the lobby and the lounge was made to have an inclined angle to allow the open view and the panoramic view surrounded by nature to be dramatically experienced along with the grandeur of the lobby and lounge. Moreover, the lounge was designed to be a space where one can feel the impression of nature’s aloofness while enjoying the warm sunlight within the scenery of nature and enjoy the changing scenery of Seoraksan Mountain and the stars in the night sky while sitting by the warm fire of the Firefit. The stairway leading to the rooftop infinity pool was designed to naturally connect the sentimental sequence of the lobby, and the landscaping designed with the motif of the natural terrain with Seorak as its background was created with lighting so that the energy and sentiment of nature can naturally circulate inside.
The textile design, which was completed by graphicalizing the shades and picturesqueness of Seoraksan Mountain’s sea of clouds, was applied to the carpets in the lounge and common halls to metaphorically capture the design like a watercolor painting. In the 211 rooms of four types, a wall close to the entrance of each room was formed in a round way to maximize the field of view, and to allow the four seasons of Seorak to naturally coexist inside and outside. The boundaries between the spaces were obscured with openings and closings to allow them to be connected and overlapped variably, and we tried to design them so that the depth and function of the spaces could become diverse depending on the user.
The SPA ROOM, where one can privately experience the hot spring spa indoors, allows one to enjoy the spa while looking at the natural scenery through the large window view frame. At the same time, by using materials with nature’s textures and properties as well as appropriate lighting, it was designed to create warmth in nature within a concise formation and order. Finally, ‘we hope that it will be a space where one can enjoy complete relaxation and freedom, and heal their mind and body with the nature of Seorak in an architecture within nature, free from the complexity of civilization.’
강원도 홍천에 위치한 소노펠리체 델피노 호텔은 한국의 자연을 대표하는 설악산과 울산 바위의 비경을 조망하며 자연 안의 건축 속에서 여유와 휴식을 찾고 즐길 수 있는 공간을 조성하기 위한 기획에서 출발한 프로젝트이다. 총 10층 East 와 West 두 개의 볼륨으로 이루어진 건물은 브릿지를 통하여 두 개의 동이 연결되는 구조이다. 10층은 체크인을 위한 리셉션 데스크, 로비, 라운지로 구성되며 , 루프탑층은 인피니티풀 ,지하층은 Golf Academy Zone 그리고 객실은 4 TYPE 의 211개 실로 구성되어 있다. 호텔을 방문하는 방문객들은 10층에 위치한 체크인 라운지를 통해 각각의 공간으로 이동하게 되는데, 10층 엘리베이터에서 내리는 순간 장엄한 설악산과 울산 바위 전망을 처음 조우하게 된다.
한국을 대표하는 사이트인만큼 어느 공간 보다 지역적 정서를 담아낸 공간이 되어야 한다고 생각하였다. 이러한 생각은 공간의 구성과 디테일을 완성하는 것에 있어 전체가 하나의 정서적 맥락 안에서 이뤄져야 한다고 생각하였으며 각 공간 마다의 독자성과 고유성 또한 유지되도록 디자인 하였다. 10층의 체크인을 위한 리셉션 데스크와 로비 , 라운지는 중앙의 건축 기둥을 중심으로 바닥 디딤 존과 자연석을 함께 배치하여 공간을 분리 하였다. 또한 라이팅과 함께 디자인된 열주 기둥과 로비 중앙 원형 기둥들은 각각 기둥 자체가 구조적 기능을 갖춤과 동시에 하나의 오브제로써 존재 하도록 하였다. 특히 로비와 라운지의 천정 레벨은 루프탑 인피니티 풀의 구조적인 이유로 인해 열주 기둥을 기준으로 천정고 높이가 1M 정도 차이가 나는데 , 이러한 조건은 우리에게 경사각 단차를 이용하여 공간의 시각의 확장성을 주는 디자인으로 전개할 수 있도록 하였다.
로비와 라운지 천정은 절제된 곡선으로의 윤곽과 형태적 미학으로 완성하고자 하였고 로비와 라운지의 이어진 원형 천정을 경사각 형태로 만들어 탁 트인 전망과 함께 자연 안에 둘러 쌓인 파노라마 조망을 로비와 라운지의 웅장함과 함께 극적으로 경험하게 하고자 하였다. 또한 라운지는 대 자연이 펼쳐진 풍광 속에서 따스한 태양의 햇살을 맞으며 자연이 주는 초연함에서 오는 감동을 느끼고 , Firefit의 따뜻한 불을 쬐며 사계절 변화하는 설악산의 풍광과 밤하늘의 별빛을 감상 할 수 있는 공간이 되도록 설계하였다. 루프탑층 인피니티풀로 이어지는 계단은 로비의 정서적 시퀀스가 자연스럽게 연계되도록 디자인하였고, 설악을 배경으로 한 자연의 지형을 모티브로 설계된 조경을 조명과 함께 조성하여 내부에서도 자연의 에너지와 정서가 자연스럽게 순환 되도록 디자인 하였다. 설악산 운해의 농담과 운치를 그래픽화하여 완성한 텍스타일 디자인은 라운지 및 공용부 홀의 카펫에 적용함으로 한 폭의 수체화처럼 디자인을 은유적으로 담아 내고자 하였다.
총 211개의 4개의 타입으로 구성된 객실은 객실마다 출입구에 근접한 벽체를 라운드로 조성하여 시야의 확장을 최대한 이루고 , 설악의 사계가 안과 밖에 자연스럽게 공존 할 수 있도록 설계 하였다. 공간 사이의 경계를 열림과 닫힘으로 모호하게 하여 공간의 연결과 중첩이 가변적으로 이루어지도록 설계하였고 ,이를 통하여 공간의 깊이와 기능이 사용자에 따라 다양하게 존재하도록 디자인 하고자 하였다. 온천수 스파를 실내에서 프라이빗하게 경험할 수 있는 SPA ROOM은 큰 창호 뷰 프레임을 통하여 자연 경관을 바라보며 스파를 즐길 수 있고 ,동시에 자연의 질감과 물성을 지닌 소재와 적절한 빛을 사용함으로 간결한 조형과 질서 안에서 따뜻한 자연 속 온기를 조성하도록 디자인 하였다. 마지막으로 ‘문명의 복잡함에서 벗어나 자연 속의 건축 안에서 설악의 자연과 함께 심신을 다듬고 치유할 수 있는 온전한 휴식과 자유를 누리는 공간이 되기를 바란다.’
