Jeju has a feeling of Jeju. In the old days, winds, stones, and haenyeo(female diver) represented Jeju Island. Jeju Island has become a resting place in the heart, not far from land, as it is better known to the world. If you go about 8km to the right, you will find Samyang-dong, a new city adjacent to Jeju City. It is smaller than any other new city on land, but it still feels like a new city. This is because it is more urban than the city on land than the center of Jeju City. A divided road gives a large urban feel disguised as a road. As I walk through Samyang-dong, I feel a little sad because I feel like I’m walking in a part of a new town on land. A young couple’s house was designed there to provide a small nest.

The house where two young children and a couple live needed a lot of space and a dynamic life. Since they have different hobbies and different occupations, they needed a space where their lives were melted. The site is located along a pedestrian road and along a large road and a small road on both sides, so it must be filled with energy. As such, this building is a place where there are many people to see and where it can be consciously proud.

The first floor has a living room, kitchen, husband’s hobby space, and a small bathroom. On the second floor, there are two children’s rooms, a family room, a home room, and a wife’s hobby space. In order to make a good spatial harmony, they found the center of their independent private lives, where their houses are spread out around their hobby spaces. If you go up to the second floor and go up a little further from the child’s room 1, there is a child’s room 2, and if you go up one more time, there is an attic, and a series of small spaces are woven around the stairs. So children can also secure their own turf. All the members of the family built the shape of a house that kept their place, so it became a spacious house. The house is surrounded by a courtyard in the center, and a large adult space was built around it. If there is a guardian god who protects the house, I think it is the house itself. A thick line surrounds the space, making each small space seem to be bound together. The house was named Sweet Geumbokjip, which is a form of blessing and overflowing energy. As such, it seems right to say that a house contains its owner in the shape of a house in the shape of a house. He always says blessings and always treats others with blessings, and the house is built accordingly.

부부의 취미가 담긴 주거공간, 제주 달콤금복주택

제주하면 제주의 느낌이 있다 옛날에는 바람, 돌, 해녀가 제주도를 대표했었다. 제주도는 육지에서 그리 멀지 않은 마음 속 쉼터다. 그래서 제주시를 중심으로 오른쪽으로 8km쯤 가면 제주시에 인접한 신도시 삼양동이 있다. 육지의 신도시보다는 작지만 제주시 중심보다도 육지에 있는 도시보다 더 도시스러운 면이 있는 곳이다. 삼양동을 거닐다 보면 육지의 신도시를 걷는 느낌이 들어서 약간 아쉬운 마음마저 든다. 그곳에 작은 보금자리를 마련하려는 젊은 부부의 집이 설계됐다.

어린아이 두 명과 부부가 살 집은 그만큼 활발한 공간이 필요하고 역동하는 삶이 담겨야 했다. 취미가 서로 다르고 직업군도 서로 다르다 보니 각자의 삶이 녹아 있는 공간이 필요했다. 보행자 도로를 끼고 양 옆으로 큰 도로와 작은 도로가 있는 곳이라 더욱이 그 에너지가 충만한 곳이 틀림없다. 그만큼 이 건물이 들어서면 볼 사람이 많은 곳이고 의식적으로 으쓱해질 만한 곳이다.

1층은 거실과 주방, 남편의 취미공간, 작은 화장실이 있다. 2층은 두 아이의 방과 가족실, 안방, 아내의 취미공간이 있다. 공간적으로 궁합이 잘 맞도록 아래위로 각자의 취미공간을 중심으로 집이 펼쳐지는 독립된 사생활의 중심을 찾은 것이다. 2층에 오르면 첫 번째 아이방이 나오고, 조금 더 올라가면 두 번째 아이방이 나온다. 그곳에서 한 번 더 올라가면 다락이 있는 형식인데 작은 공간들의 연속이 계단을 중심으로 엮어있다. 그래서 아이들도 자신만의 영역을 확보할 수 있다. 가족 구성원들이 다 자기 자리를 지키는 집의 형상을 만들었기에 넉넉한 집이 됐다. 중심에 마당이 있고 이를 중심으로 빙 둘러쳐진 집의 형태는 중심 공간을 품은 커다란 어른 공간이 만들어진 샘이다. 집을 지켜주는 수호신이 있다면 그것은 바로 집 자체가 아닐까 생각한다. 굵은 선이 한 번 감싸고 있으니 작은 각자의 공간이 하나로 묶인 느낌이다. 집의 이름이 달콤금복집이라고 지어졌는데 복이 담기고 넘칠 기운이 담긴 형태를 표현한 것이다. 그만큼 집은 집 모양 그대로 집 주인을 담는다는 말이 맞는 것 같다. 항상 복을 짓는 말을 하며 복을 짓는 행동으로 상대를 대하는데 집도 그에 걸맞게 만들어졌다.
