MIGHTY BUILDING FACADE ARCHITECTURE

It is a neighborhood living facility building located at the entrance of Euljiro Station, the gateway to Myeong-dong. Considering the characteristics of the local and neighborhood living programs that have developed into tourism and commerce, it gives desirable symbolism as a commercial facility and harmonizes with the surroundings.

Located in the narrow, densely populated neighborhood of buildings, the entire volume is seen between buildings and buildings rather than at a glance, so it is located in a position where pedestrians can be intrigued by the entire building.

It is designed to experience the depth of the facade naturally perceived in the flow of pedestrians and the changeable diversity of surroundings rather than the volume of the building under the circumstances around the entrance of Euljiro Station. The basic volume was formed in a simple box shape that conforms to the surrounding context and maximizes the commercial value of the building, but a vertical segmentation element is introduced for a familiar and variale scale at the pedestrian level. Crossing the vertical segmental elements that can be simpler and horizontally interspersed to pursue a change in elevation, and at the same time, to emphasize the volume of each segmental element, a frit pattern was applied to the glass surface of the curtain wall to maximize the three-dimensional effect.

It is planned to be designed in consideration of the unique design as a commercial building, the usability of the interior space, the possibility of dividing various interior spaces by the tenant's demand, and the constructability.

마이티빌딩 입면설계

명동의 관문이라 할 수 있는 을지로역 입구에 위치한 근린생활시설 건물로 관광과 상업으로 발전을 이룬 지역적인 특성과 근린생활시설 프로그램의 특성을 고려하여 상업시설로서의 바람직한 상징성을 부여하고 주변과의 조화를 이루는 디자인을 계획하였다.

주변 건물들이 좁고 빽빽하게 서있고 유동인구가 많은 곳에 위치한 건물은 볼륨 전체가 한눈에 보이기 보다는 건물과 건물 사이에 빼꼼히 보여지므로 보행자로 하여금 전체 건물에 대한 호기심을 유발시킬 수 있는 위치에 자리 잡고 있다.

좁고 어두운 을지로역 입구 주변의 상황에서 건물의 볼륨보다는 보행자의 흐름속에 자연스럽게 인지되는 입면의 깊이감과 주변을 담을 수 있는 변화 가능한 다양성을 경험하도록 계획되었다. 기본 볼륨은 주변 맥락에 순응하고 건물의 상업적 가치를 극대화하는 심플한 박스형태로 형성되었으나 보행자 레벨에서의 친숙하고 변화있는 스케일감을 위해 수직적 분절 요소를 도입하였다. 자칫 단순해질 수 있는 수직적 분절 요소를 수평으로 층간 교차함으로써 입면의 변화를 추구하였으며 동시에 각 분절 요소들의 볼륨을 강조하기 위해 커튼월 유리표면에 프릿패턴(frit pattern)을 적용하여 입체감을 극대화 하였다.

상업 건물로서의 유니크한 디자인, 내부 공간의 활용성 및 임차인 요구에 의한 다양한 내부공간 분할 가능성, 시공성 등을 고려해설계되도록 계획하였다.
