The client, founder of Fengyuzhu, hoped to display the architectural models of all the famous contemporary Chinese architects in this museum. Wutopia Lab decided to make the entire museum into a mega model of future city. The collected models become different components of the future city’s fabric, with each of them divergently predicting a different future. Such an architectural model museum is truly meaningful at architecture level, and Wutopia Lab defined it as “Models in Model”.
A total of 5,653 steel pipes were used to build the vertical city of Last Redoubt. Wutopia Lab made structural and decorative pillars uniform in size and visual impression, to deliberately weaken the existence of the structures. These continuing steel pipes together form a rhythm and compose interfaces that partition different areas in the vertical city. The inner city of the Last Redoubt, i.e. the museum’s main exhibition area, is divided into three main sections, including Tijuana(from the movie Cowboy Bebop), Ironia(The name is derived from the City of Iron in the movie Alita: Battle Angel) and Pod bay(2001: A Space Odyssey). The Last Redoubt was embedded onto the original irregular plane as a complete square city, which left some fragmentary corner spaces on the plane. Those three spaces were as special exhibition spaces in red(Olympus-Appleseed), yellow(Arrakis-Dune) and blue(Asgard-Thor), which also function as sacred spaces of the city to connect the Last Redoubt with the real world. The pure spaces will eventually break through the boundaries and expand the unknown fields more magnificently to achieve sustainable development.
Beyond the white Last Redoubt is the Night Land. As an antithetical pair, Wutopia Lab designed the elevator lobby to be black, as if it were dark night. Looking at each other across Stargate, they are two different worlds.
모델의 모델들
펜규슈(Fengyuzhu)의 설립자는 모든 유명한 중국 현대 건축가들의 건축 모델을 이 박물관에 전시하기를 바랐다. 우토피아 랩은 박물관 전체를 미래 도시의 메가 모델로 만들기로 했다. 수집된 모델은 각기 다른 미래를 예측하면서 미래 도시의 구조에 서로 다른 요소들이 된다. 건축 모델 박물관은 건축적으로 진정 의미가 있으며, 우토피아 랩은 그것을 “ 모델의 모델들(Models in Model)”로 정의했다.
라스트 다우트(Last Redoubt-마지막 보루)라는 수직 도시를 세우는데 총 5,653개의 강철 파이프를 사용했다. 우토피아 랩은 의도적으로 구조물의 존재를 약화시키기 위해 구조 기둥과 장식 기둥의 크기와 시각적 인상을 균일하게 만들었다. 계속적인 강철 파이프는 리듬을 형성하고 서로 다른 영역들을 구분하는 접점을 형성한다. 라스트 다우트의 내부 도시, 즉 박물관의 주요 전시 영역은 티후아나(영화 카우보이 비밥에서 유래), 아이러니아(영화 알리타:배틀 엔젤에 나온 아이론 시티(City of Iron)에서 유래), 포드 베이(영화 2001 스페이스 오디세이에서 유래) 등 크게 세 부분으로 나뉜다. 라스트 다우트는 완전히 네모난 도시로서 기존의 불규칙한 면 위에 끼워 넣어졌는데, 덕분에 몇 개의 단편적인 코너 공간이 남게 되었다. 이 세 공간은 붉은색(올림푸스- 애플시드), 노란색(아라키스-둔), 파란색(아스가르드-토르)의 특별한 전시 공간이며, 라스트 다우트를 현실 세계와 연결하는 도시의 신성한 공간으로 기능한다. 이 순수한 공간은 결국 경계를 뚫고 미지의 영역을 더욱 장엄하게 넓혀 지속 가능한 발전을 이룰 것이다.
하얀 라스트 다우트 너머에는 나이트 랜드(Night Land-밤의 땅)가 있다. 상반되는 한 쌍처럼, 우토피아 랩은 엘리베이터 로비를 어두운 밤처럼 검은색으로 디자인했다. 스타게이트를 가로질러 서로를 바라보면, 그것들은 서로 다른 두 세계로 보인다.
