MULTIDISCIPLINARY DESIGN OFFICE

A mid-nineteenth century space was converted into a multidisciplinary design office. The principal concept was to create an atmosphere where the old constructed forms highlight the new geometry that meld with the nature and the human. The first intention was recuperating the heritage value of the existing architecture through several interventions that aim to reveal its material potential. The plaster-work was peeled back to make visible the stone and old bricks walls, and the false ceiling was removed to show the fireproofing protected wooden beams. The existing walls, the high ceiling and the new continuous pavement were all painted white and unify the material textures.

The second design strategy invents a new sculpture-like system inspired by Torii; a traditional Japanese culture symbol which represents a gateway that signals the transition from the profane to the sacred. The reinterpretation of this element is repeated to build a form that exists between the abstract and the concrete, to create an ambiguous self-supporting structure that blur the boundaries between interior and exterior. The transparency enhances the visual depth of the space and leads to a natural and harmonious environment that stimulates people to interact. The shelves, which seems to be settled apparently random in different heights, create an aesthetic dynamic composition while giving support to books, models and plant pots. The flexibility of the system allows the workers to modify the placement of tables and shelves, providing new design possibilities that respond to future needs without altering the initial concept of the project.

디자인 사무실

19세기 중반의 공간을 종합 디자인 사무실로 전환했다. 주요 개념은 옛 건축 양식이 자연과 인간을 혼합한 새로운 기하학적 구조를 강조하는 분위기를 만드는 것이었다. 첫 번째 의도는 물질성을 드러내는 것을 목적으로 하는 몇 가지 개입를 통해 현존하는 건축의 유산적 가치를 회복하는 것이었다. 석고는 돌과 오래된 벽돌 벽이 보이도록 벗겨졌고 매달은 천장은 내화 목조 빔이 보이도록 제거되었다. 기존의 벽과 높은 천장, 그리고 새로운 연속 바닥은 흰색으로 페인트 칠해졌고 재료의 질감을 통일시켰다.

두 번째 디자인 전략은 일본의 전통 문화 상징인 토리이(Torii)로 부터 영감을 받은 새로운 조각적 시스템을 고안하는 것인데, 토리이는 세속적인 것에서 신성한 것으로의 전환을 알리는 관문이자 상징이다. 이 요소의 재해석을 반복하여 추상적 개념과 콘크리트 사이에 존재하는 형태를 구축하여 내부와 외부 사이의 경계가 모호한 자기 지지 구조를 만든다. 투명성은 공간의 시각적 깊이를 더하며 자연스럽고 조화로운 환경을 이끌어 사람들의 상호작용을 활발하게 한다. 각기 다른 높이로 아무렇게나 놓여 있는 듯한 선반들은 책, 모형, 화분을 받치면서 미적 역동성을 자아낸다. 이 시스템은 작업자가 테이블과 선반의 배치를 수정할 수 있고 프로젝트의 초기 개념을 변경하지 않고도 미래의 요구에 대응할 수 있는 새로운 디자인 가능성을 제공한다.
