The Brunch cafe ‘rrroh’ building, which stands tall on top of a hill deep inside the end of an apartment complex, boasts its calm appearance surrounded by the dense forest, sky and wind. Since the space had numerous windows that open to the exterior and several skylights on the second floor, it had an interior that allows all four seasons to be felt.
Furthermore, as the courtyard that penetrates the first and second floors is also finished entirely with glass had the feature of allowing the movement of light and shadow (the passage of time) to be felt. Efforts had to be made to avoid damaging the architect's intention of bringing the external environment into the interior as much as possible, and in order to reflect the opinion of the owner who has a distinct ‘color concept’, many things were agonized over to create a unique identity of cafe ‘rrroh’.
The interior design was approached by separating the sides of the divided space, and by considering the area, position, proportion, etc. of the given side and analyzing the correlation of the sides, spaces of various types were presented. By suitably utilizing finishes and colors that match the brand identity, each of the walls that divide the interior space were designed by using different colors and textures to allow them to be separated into many zones within one concept.
Depending on the passage of time, each side is tinged with many different lights and shadows, and depending on the external scenery, they change into different ambiences. As a way of bringing in the external landscape to the interior as much as possible, the windows of the existing building were staged with curtains made of see through fabrics, and this is the optimal feature to express the movement of the light depending on the flow of the wind.
The elevation had nature as the basic motif, therefore in dividing the space, it was placed by embodying the trees as the pillars, and the sky and stars as the lights. As for the ceiling, the lights and shadows were more dramatically used by closing part of the open ceiling, considering the condition of the space (beam, level, location of the air conditioner and heater, etc.), and by differing the level.
The floor of the external courtyard was created using white gravels, plants and mirrors, and the mirror of the floor was intended to express the passage of time as the sky and shadow of the light are projected. Such presentment can share dramatic atmospheres from various angles in the four-sided space with a courtyard.
브런치 카페 '로'
아파트 단지 끝자락 깊숙한 곳 언덕 위에 우뚝 서 있는 브런치 카페 ‘로’건물은 울창한 숲과 하늘 바람에 둘러싸여 얌전한 자태를 뽐내고 있다. 공간은 외부로 통하는 많은 창문과 2층 곳곳에 천창이 있어 사계절을 느낄 수 있는 내부를 갖고 있었다.
또한 1, 2층을 관통하는 중정 역시 통유리창으로 마감되어 있어 빛과 그림자의 이동(시간의 흐름)을 느낄 수 있는 특징을 지니고 있었다. 최대한 외부 환경을 내부로 들이려는 건축가의 의도를 해치지 않기 위한 노력이 필요했으며, 뚜렷한‘ 컬러 컨셉’을 가진 건축주의 의견을 반영하기 위해, 카페 ‘로’만의 유니크한 아이덴티티를 창조하고자 많이 고민하였다.
인테리어 디자인은 구획된 공간의 면을 분할하여 접근하였는데, 주어진 면의 면적, 위치, 비례 등을 고려하고 면과 면끼리의 상관관계를 분석하여 다양한 타입의 공간을 연출하였다. 내부 공간을 나누는 각각의 벽에는 브랜드 아이덴티티에 맞는 마감과 컬러를 적절하게 사용하여, 1개의 컨셉 안에서 여러 개의 존으로 구분될 수 있도록 서로 다른 컬러와 텍스처를 이용해 디자인하였다.
각각의 면은 시간의 흐름에 따라 여러 가지 빛과 그림자로 물들고 외부의 풍경에 따라서 또 다른 분위기로 변화한다. 외부 풍경을 내부로 최대한 끌어들이고자 기존 건축 창호에 시스루한 패브릭의 커튼을 연출하였고, 이는 바람의 흐름에 따른 빛의 움직임을 표현하기에 최적의 요소이다.
입면은 자연을 기본 모티브로 하여 공간을 나눔에 있어 나무를 기둥으로, 구름과 별은 조명으로 형상화하여 배치하였다. 천장은 공간 컨디션(보, 레벨, 냉/난방기 위치 등)을 고려하여 열린 천장 일부를 닫고 레벨을 달리하여 빛과 그림자를 더욱 극적으로 활용하였다. 외부 중정의 바닥은 백자갈, 식물과 거울로 연출하였는데, 바닥의 거울은 하늘과 빛의 그림자가 투영되어 시간의 흐름을 표현하기 위한 의도이다. 이러한 연출은 중정을 끼고 있는 사면의 공간에서 다각도로 극적인 분위기를 공유할 수 있다.
