The ‘Ordinary Clinic’ is a hospital that practices internal medicine and treats with a doctor’s diagnosis and prescription without any major surgeries. However, it is also a space where people can receive year-round recovery and healing. Most of all, when entering the ‘Ordinary Clinic’, there is a coziness. While strongly showing its presence, it does not have flaunty elements. This does not mean that it is externally less attractive. The context and nature of the name ‘Ordinary’ were not forgotten. The air and energy hovering in the space quietly permeates without any special irritation.

The ‘Ordinary Clinic’ reminds us of the value of the normal things we encounter everyday in the rapidly and monotonously changing social conditions. Rather than being constrained by grandiose topics, phenomena or concepts, they comfortably and meticulously deliver daily regards. That is why we are greeted with a “Hello” instead of a “Welcome” here, asking if we had a peaceful night. It is not simply treating the ill, but welcomingly greeting someone who has come to visit and approaching them in a friendly and thoughtful way. Actually, like Hostel and Hotel, the word Hospital derives from the latin work ‘Hospitale’, with the meaning of ‘being considerate to the mind and body’. Ultimately, it is only natural for hospitals to also be created into spaces of consideration and hospitality.

보통의 의원

‘보통의 의원’은 내과 진료가 이루어지는 병원으로, 큰 수술 없이 의사의 진단과 처방으로 치료받는 곳이다. 하지만 연중무휴 회복과 치유를 얻을 수 있는 공간이기도 하다. '보통의 의원’에 들어서면 무엇보다 편안하다. 존재감을 강하게 드러내며 과시하는 요소가 없다. 외형적으로 덜 아름답다는 것은 아니다‘. 보통’이라는 이름의 맥락과 본질을 잃지 않고 있다. 공간에 맴도는 공기와 기운이 특별한 자극 없이 차분하게 스며든다‘.

'보통의 의원’은 천편일률적으로 급변하는 세태 속에서 우리가 매일 마주하는 평범한 것들의 소중함을 일러준다. 거창한 화두나 현상, 관념에 얽매이지 않으며, 다만 편안하고 세심하게 매일의 안부를 건넨다. 그래서 이곳에서는 "어서 오세요.”가 아닌 "안녕하세요.”로 밤새 평안했는지를 묻는다. 단순히 아픈 사람을 치료하는 것이 아닌, 나를 찾아주는 사람을 반갑게 맞이하듯 친근하고 사려 깊게 다가서는 것이다. 사실 Hospital은 Hostel, Hotel과 마찬가지로‘ 심신을 배려한다.’는 뜻의 라틴어 ‘Hospitale’에 어원을 두고 있다. 결국 병원 역시 배려와 환대의 공간으로 만들어지는 게 자연스러운 도출인 것이다.
