THE Y

The Y occupies two floors at the base of a newly built residential building in the heart of Moscow. Designed by the New York based design studio Asthetíque, the restaurant has two open kitchens and more than 200 seats.

The concept is about the youth and diversity of generation Y : bold and ironic 30-40 year old residents of the megalopolis who created the first video games and was pivotal in the Internet boom. The Y design was created to exemplify this generation’s current status as it features spaces for their children, a café, and a separate area for more sophisticated dining. Asthetíque dug deep to understand the Moscow demographic and to ensure the concept was tailored to their everyday lives.

The atmosphere is light, fresh and easygoing. Here you can truly feel as if you’re in a different reality. outside the window features the same Moscow landscape, but while inside you seem to be within a theatrical stage where you’re immersed within the action. You can find aesthetics a 70’s aesthetic expressed in ideal arched forms and delicate pastel colors. The designers clearly share the aesthetics of acclaimed American director Wes Anderson(“Isle of Dogs”, “The Grand Budapest Hotel”). They even used the same formula: bright pastel color palette + symmetry + atmosphere of magic.

더 와이

더 와이(The Y) 레스토랑은 모스크바 중심에 새로 지어진 주택을 기반으로 2층을 차지하고 있다. 뉴욕에 본사를 둔 디자인 스튜디오 아스테티크가 디자인한 이 레스토랑은 2개의 오픈 주방과 200석이 넘는 좌석을 갖추고 있다.

콘셉트는 Y세대의 젊음과 다양성이다. Y세대는 첫 번째 비디오 게임을 만들고 인터넷 붐이 일어날 때 중추적인 역할을 했던 대담하면서도 역설적인 30-40대의 대도시 거주자들을 의미한다. 레스토랑은 그들의 자녀를 위한 공간, 카페, 세련된 식사를 위한 별도의 공간을 갖춤으로써 이 세대의 현재를 전형적으로 보여준다. 아스테티크는 모스크바의 사람들을 파악하고 그들의 일상에 그 개념을 맞추기 위해 깊이 파고들었다.
