The Loom-Mbq Store

“The Loom” is the winning proposal of the design competition for Mesteshukar Boutique. MBQ is a Bucharest based, non-profit social enterprise that promotes traditional Roma and Romanian craftsmanship. To recollect the experience of certain crafts means remembering the process. The body reacts when it sees the tools, or the materials. A place that aims to keep the crafts alive should be able to trigger memories, to have the tools and the material available, to take a seat and let the fingers move along with them.

Stardust Architects have envisioned a long, central table, where one could either see and touch objects, or even make ones while being guided through a workshop, or just read about people and their crafts while drinking a coffee. Experiencing this place make you feel like being in a loom. For the exhibition of the final products architects proposed a flexible structure, able to be reformulated for different types of objects, different proportions or scenarios, giving the shop the freedom to change in time the selections and the focus of its curricula. It is a simple pine structure made of flute-columns waiting for their beams that can support either shelves or hooks. The assembly will use handmade copper joints.

더 룸

“더 룸”은 메스테슈카르 부티크(MBQ) 설계 공모전에서 우승한 구상 안이다. MBQ는 로마와 로마 공예를 홍보하는 부카레스트 기반의 비영리 사회적 기업이다. 어떤 공예품들의 경험을 기억해 내는 것은 그 과정을 기억하는 것을 의미한다. 몸은 도구 또는 재료를 봤을 때 반응한다. 공예품들을 보존하려는 목적의 공간은 도구들과 재료들을 사용할 수 있게 해두고 자리에 앉아서 그것들과 함께 손가락을 움직임으로써 기억을 떠올릴 수 있도록 만들어 줘야 한다.

스타더스트 건축가들은 사람들이 물건들을 보고 만질 수 있고, 더 나아가 워크숍을 통해 가이드받거나 커피를 마시면서 사람들과 그들의 공예품들에 대해 이야기 할 수 있도록 긴 중앙 테이블을 놓는 것을 구상했다. 이 공간은 마치 베틀 속에 있는 것처럼 느끼게 해줄 것이다.

완성품들을 전시하기 위해, 상점이 적절한 시기에 선정된 것들을 변경하고 커리큘럼의 초점을 변경할 수 있도록 자유를 주면서 다양한 제품의 종류, 비율 혹은 시나리오에 따라 재조립할 수 있는 융통성 있는 구조를 제안했다. 이것은 고리나 선반을 받쳐줄 수 있는 기둥과 조립되는 플루트 기둥으로 구성된 단순한 소나무 재목의 구조물이다. 그 조립은 수제 구리 조인트를 사용했다.
