Pillars of Dreams is an original work commissioned by Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, the Charlotte/Mecklenburg Public Art Commission and Arts and Science Council. A cloud-like formation hovers in the plaza of the Valerie C. Woodard Center in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Pillars of Dreams is a landmark pavilion and lightweight structure; its open volumes appear to be filled with air, but they are held up by a continuous structural skin in ultra-thin aluminum.

A labyrinth of unique parts unfurl across the surface in two layers, which produce openings over the broader expanses of the canopy and contract where the double-curvature meets in seams or resolves into nine hollow columns. The complex skin generates a dynamic atmosphere in the space below. Graphic shadows and projected light patterns lend magic to a casual stroll along its length, a game of tag around staggered legs, or a restful moment seated under the canopy.

PILLARS OF DREAMS

꿈의 기둥들은 노스 캐롤라이나 주 메클렌버그 카운티(Mecklenburg County, North Carolina)의 샬롯/메클렌버그(Charlotte/Mecklenburg) 공공미술위원회 및 예술과학 위원회에 의해 의뢰된 독창적인 작업물이다. 구름과 같은 형상물은 노스 캐롤라이나의 샬롯에 위치한 발레리 C. 우드아드 센터(Valerie C. Woodard Center) 광장의 공중에 매달려있다. 꿈의 기둥들은 경량 구조의 랜드마크 파빌리온이다.

이것의 개방된 부피는 공기로 채워진 것처럼 보이나, 얇은 알루미늄 소재가 연결된 구조적 표피에 의해 지탱된다. 독특한 부분의 미로 형상은 지면에 걸쳐 광활하게 펼쳐지는 캐노피의 입구를 만들어주는 레이어와 이중 곡률의 이음새 혹은 속이 비어있는 9개의 기둥으로 귀착되는 부분을 닫아주는 레이어, 총 두 개의 레이어로 펼쳐진다.

복잡한 외피는 공간 하단에 역동적인 분위기를 만들어준다. 그래픽 그림자들과 투영된 빛 무늬들은 그 길이를 따라 이뤄지는 일상적 산책과 아 이들의 술래잡기 혹 은 캐노피 아래에서의 휴식 시간에 마법을 만들어준다.
