The concept for Dongsuh Foods flagship building in Hannamdong came from the desire to showcase and share the company’s expertise in creating the highest quality coffee with its long history of success from instant mix coffee to custom made coffee experiences.
Architecturally, the building is a coffee factory, an industrial structure in the middle of an urban forest. The multilevel spaces tells the story of sourcing the best beans, roasting, extracting, tasting and experiencing the many ways to enjoy this most popular drink. As the building cascades down the steep site to the south, terraces provide indoor-outdoor spaces to enjoy the view and natural light. The building façade facing the main street is a juxtaposition of windows, folding doors and coffee beanshaped perforated panels that transforms throughout the day depending on time, light and special events.
The exterior building tile panels are a “dark roast” coffee color that expresses the variety of flavors offered inside. One of the most important concepts is to make the interior spaces as open and accessible to the pedestrian.
And upon entering, voids are strategically located to maximize visual and physical connections to all the multi-level spaces. A layer of green planting screen is installed in the narrow space between the adjacent building and a wall of planting on the south window wall provides natural shade during the day.
맥심 플랜트
한남동 이태원로에 위치한 동서식품의 맥심 플래그십 스토어인‘ 맥심 플랜트’는 인스턴트 커피에서 맞춤형 커피 체험에 이르기까지 좋은 커피를 향한 오랜 집념과 전문성을 바탕으로 브랜드만의 철학과 감성, 생산 공정의 오리지널리티를 선보이고 공유하려는 바람에서 시작되었다.
건축적으로 이 건물은 도심 숲속 커피 공장이라는 산업시설이다. 다단계로 적층된 공간은 좋은 콩을 소싱하고 로스팅하고 블랜딩하고 추출하고 시음하고 즐기는 여러 가지 방법을 경험하고 이야기하는 공간이다. 가파른 부지에 있는 건물의 다양한 남쪽 테라스는 이태원 언덕의 멋진 뷰와 햇살을 충분히 즐길 수 있는 중요한 요소이고 주 도로에 면하는 건물 파사드는 시간, 조명, 특별한 이벤트에 따라 다양하게 변화할 수 있도록 창과 폴딩 문, 커피콩 패턴으로 펀칭 된 셔터패널 등 여러 장치를 통해 가로로 세로로 접히고 들어 올려지게 설계되었다.
건물의 외벽은 내부에서 즐기는 다양한 풍미를 표현하고자 짙게 로스팅된 커피의 색상으로 마감되었다. 공간에 가장 중요한 개념 중 하나는 내부공간을 개방적이고 모든 고객들의 접근이 쉽도록 설계된 점이다.
매장에서 만나는 보이드 공간은 시각적인 확장감을 줄 뿐 아니라 여러 층의 공간을 하나의 공간으로 느껴지게 하기 위해 전략적으로 배치되었다. 인접한 건물 사이의 좁은 공간에는 녹색 플랜트들이 식재되었고 남쪽 창문에 드리워진 플랜트 블라인드는 뜨거운 낮에 자연스런 그늘을 만들어준다.
