부산에서 포항으로 이어진 바닷가에는 수없이 많은 숙소 들이 있다. 진하 해수욕장은 주변의 다른 해수욕장에 비해 찾는 이가 적은 곳이다. 관광지는 아니지만 미므미므는 사람들이 다른 바닷가 숙소에서 경험하지 못하는 새로움을 선사하는 작은 독채 풀빌라다. 자연의 풍경을 파괴하는 것이 아닌 노후화된 해변 경관을 새롭게 만들어 내는 소소한 건축 장치인 것이다.

 

시간의 섬
진하 해수욕장을 마주하고 있는 큰 대상 부지에서 바다를 바라보면 소나무 숲이 있는 큰 섬이 하나 있다. 미므미므는 이곳에서 진하 해수욕장과 이어진 또 하나의 바다이고, 저 건너편에 보이는 자연의 섬과 연결된 건축이 만들어 내는 독립된 7개의 섬이다. 7개의 섬은 부지 전체에 흩뿌려져 있고 섬과 섬 사이를 통해 단지 내부에서는 바다의 풍경을 외부에서는 단지의 풍경을 공유할 수 있다. 건축으로 구축된 섬에 들어가는 순간 관념의 시간은 정지된다. 그리고 오로지 하늘로만 뚫린 정지된 사이 공간을 통해서 들어오는 빛과 물에 반사된 빛을 통해서 자연의 시간을 느낄 수 있다. 사람마다 이곳에서 지내는 동안 느끼게 되는 시간의 속도는 다르게 될 것이다.

 

공간 속의 공간들
7개의 섬을 구축하는 방법은 단순한 사각형 형태다. 사각형 형태를 구축하는 방법은 온전한 4개의 벽이다. 4개 벽 안에는 사이 공간인 4면의 수영장이 있다. 4면의 수영장 안에는 유리로 구축된 하나의 실내 공간이 내부의 또 다른 섬처럼 구성되어 있다. 실내 공간 안에는 다시 사각형으로 구성된 화장실과 샤워실 그리고 설비 유틸리티가 있다. 그리고 설비 유틸리티 상부에서는 하늘과 연결된 천장의 오픈 사각형 구조물이 있으며 그곳을 통해서 빛이 떨어진다. 겹겹이 쌓인 공간들 속에서 빛의 변화를 통하여 시간의 깊이와 자신의 내면을 발견하게 된다.

 

구조와 분리된 공간
겹겹이 쌓인 공간들을 인식하게 하기 위하여 내부 공간을 지지하는 기둥 및 벽체의 구조체를 없애고 독립된 공간을 구축하였다. 내부 공간을 구축하기 위하여 떨어져 나간 4개의 벽은 모든 힘을 받아내는 수직 구조체이다. 공간 속의 공간인 사이 공간과 천창을 구축하고 슬라브를 오픈하기 위하여 격자 형태의 와플 구조를 수평 구조의 구축 원리로 사용하였다. 수영장 상부에 형성된 구조보는 시간에 따라 다양한 그림자를 4개의 벽과 수영장 그리고 실내 공간에 만들어 낸다. 공간 속의 공간들은 구조와 분리되었지만 시간에 따라 변하는 빛은 구조와 분리된 공간들을 다시 하나로 연결한다.

Along the coastline connecting Busan to Pohang, there are countless accommodations. Jinha Beach is a less frequented place compared to other nearby beaches. Mimmim offers a small villa with a detached pool that provides a freshness not experienced in other seaside lodgings, without disrupting the natural landscape but rather rejuvenating the aging beach scenery through subtle architectural devices.

 

Island of Time
Facing Jinha Beach from a large site, one can see a significant island with a pine forest. Mimmim is another sea connected to Jinha Beach, and it contains seven independent islands connected to the natural island visible across the water. These islands are scattered throughout the entire site, and through the spaces between them, visitors can share both a sea view from inside and a courtyard view from outside. The moment one enters the constructed islands, the perception of time freezes. Through the still space open only to the sky, allowing light and reflected light through water, can one sense the passage of natural time. Each person may experience a different pace of time while staying here.

 

Spaces Within Spaces
The method used to construct the seven islands is a simple rectangular shape with four complete walls. Within these four walls are swimming pools surrounding the space, forming another indoor space like a separate island. Inside this indoor space are square-shaped toilets, showers, and utility facilities. Above the utility area is an open rectangular structure connecting to the sky, allowing light to filter through. Stacked layers of spaces reveal the depth of time and self-discovery through changes in light.

 

Structure and Separated Spaces
To emphasize the stacked spaces, the supporting structures of columns and walls within the interior space were removed, creating independent areas. The four walls extending outward to build the interior space serve as vertical structures capable of withstanding all forces. The construction principle employs a grid-shaped waffle arrangement for the open slabs and to create space between the grid and skylights. The structure formed above the swimming pool produces various shadows on the four walls, the pool, and the indoor space over time. Although the spaces within spaces are separated from the structure, changing light over time reconnects the separated spaces into a unified whole.
