자은 다목적 마을회관은 신안군의 자은면에 있는 지역 마을회관이다. 신안군은 1천 4개의 섬이 있어 천사섬이라고 불리는 것처럼, 크고 작은 여러 섬으로 이루어져 있다. 그중 100여 개의 섬이 유인도이며, 자은도는 육로로 갈 수 있는 마지막 섬이다. 자은 다목적 마을회관은 암태도와 자은도를 연결하는 은암대교를 지나 자은면으로 들어서는 초입에 지어졌다.
면사무소와 체육시설 등이 있는 공공시설 용지 중 저수지를 끼고 있는 대지는 저수지 둑 상부와는 6m 아래에 있어, 대지와 저수지의 관계에 관한 고찰이 필요했다. 둑길 상부에서의 전경은 놀라울 정도로 훌륭했지만 대지에서 바라보면 저수지의 둑이 장벽 같았다. 건축가는 장벽을 근사하게 활용할 수 있는 방안을 찾았다. 대지와 만나는 둑은 수풀이 무성히 자란 버려진 공간이었고, 마을회관을 이용하는 주민들에게 이 공간을 되돌려 주기 위해 건물의 남쪽에 커다란 정원을 만들었다. 둑 정원이 확장되어 저수지를 품은 수변 공원은 주민이 이용할 수 있게 되었다.
자은 다목적 마을회관은 주민들이 편하게 이용하는 단순한 용도의 건물로 출입이 자유롭고 목적성 없이 방문하거나 그냥 지나가기도 하는 공간이 되길 기대하며 계획했다. 1층에 구성된 공간 대부분은 쓰임에 따라 분리되고 통합되는 구조로 6개의 출입구가 그 역할을 하며 각각의 스케일을 갖는다. 1개 층으로 구성된 다양한 스케일의 공간은 크기가 다른 6개의 지붕이 되고, 이는 하나의 처마로 연결됐다. 깊은 처마는 내부와 외부에 새로운 경계를 만든다.
Jaeun Multipurpose Village Hall is a local village hall in Jaeun-myeon, Sinan-gun. Shinan-gun is made up of many large and small islands, and is called Angel Island because it has 1,400[1] islands. About 100 of them are inhabited, and Jaeun Island is the last island that can be reached by land route. Jaeun Multipurpose Village Hall was built at the entrance to Jaeun-myeon after crossing the Eunam Bridge connecting Amtae-do and Jaeun-do.
Of the public facility land, which includes a myeon[2] office and sports facilities, the site next to the reservoir was 6 meters below the top of the reservoir bank, making it necessary to contemplate the relationship between the land and the reservoir. The view from the top of the causeway was amazing, but when viewed from the ground, the banks of the reservoir looked like a barrier. The architects found a way to make good use of the wall. The bank where it meets the site was an abandoned space with overgrown vegetation, and a large garden was created on the south side of the building to return this space to the residents who use the village hall. The bank garden was expanded to create a waterfront park with a reservoir for community use.
The Jaeun Multipurpose Village Hall was planned with the expectation that it would be a simple building that residents can use comfortably, a space that could be freely accessed and visited or passed by without purpose. Most of the spaces on the first floor are divided and integrated according to their use, with six entrances and exits of their own scale. The differently scaled spaces on the first floor become six roofs of different sizes, connected by a single eave. The extensive eave creates a new boundary between interior and exterior.
