Colorful Wangjing

과거의 왕징은 베이징 북동측에 위치한 광활한 농경 지역이었으며, 유리한 입지를 바탕으로 하여 교통, 기술, 패션, 국제적인 사업 및 사회 활동을 통해 지난 20년 간 급속히 성장한 도시이다. 디자이너는 국제적인 왕징 지구의 새로운 랜드마크로써 ‘황실을 내다본다’는 ‘왕징(WangJing)’을 현대적으로 해석한 랜드마크를 제시했다. 컬러풀 왕징은 왕징 시내의 주요 교차로에 설치되어, 그 중심에서 중심에 위치하여 지역을 내다보는 ‘눈’의 추상적인 이미지를 통해 미래의 도시 발전과 일상의 조화를 꾀한다는 의미를 담고 있다.

 

스테인리스강구조로 만들어진 지름 18m의 외부의 링 안에 자리잡은 ‘눈’ 형태의 구조물은 하이퍼볼로이드 LED 스크린으로 제작됐다. 강철 테이블로 연결되어 신비로움과 긴장감을 더하는 것과 동시에, 스크린에는 다양한 콘텐츠가 표시되어 ‘눈’에 모든 것이 담긴다는 화려한 시각적인 효과를 준다. 또, 광센서를 통해 하루의 시간대별로 각각 다른 밝기로 자동 조절되어 인근 주택가와의 간섭을 최소화했다.

Wangjing used to be a vast agricultural area located northeast of Beijing, and with its advantageous location, it is a city that has grown rapidly over the past 20 years through transportation, technology, fashion, international business, and social activities. The designers proposed a modern interpretation of ‘WangJing,’ which literally means ‘look out to the imperial city’ as a new landmark in the cosmopolitan Wangjing district. Installed at a major intersection in downtown Wangjing, Colorful WangJing is centrally located within the center of the city. Through the abstract image of an “eye” looking out over the area, it symbolizes the harmony between future urban development and daily life.

 

Set within an 18-meter diameter outer ring made of stainless steel, the ‘eye’ structure is made of a hyperboloid LED screen. Connected by a steel table to add a sense of mystery and suspense, various contents are displayed on the screen, creating a spectacular visual effect that suggests the ‘eye’ holds everything. The screens are automatically adjusted to different brightness levels at different times of the day via light sensors to minimize interference with neighboring residential areas.
