Tosa City Cultural Complex “Tsuna-de”

This is a multipurpose cultural area that located in the city of Tosa in Kochi Prefecture that combines six functions: a hall, library, community center, gallery, social welfare association, and chamber of commerce. In the past, there was a road called "Michi" in Japan that served as a public space. This project introduces the concept of "Michi" into architecture, connecting various functions. By incorporating a mix of steel and wood, a new translucent braced shear wall has been developed. The use of wood in the structure allows the walls to also serve as furniture, enabling users to create new spaces. Reflecting these characteristics on every floor, the walls become symbolic of people moving around the "Michi." Instead of imposing massive walls that obstruct human movement, the structure functions as a connector of human activities.

이곳은 고치현 도사시에 있는 홀, 도서관, 주민센터, 갤러리, 사회복지협의회, 상공회의소 등 6가지 기능을 결합한 복합문화공간이다. 과거 일본에서는 공공공간 역할을 하는 ‘미치’라는 도로가 있었다. 이 프로젝트는 ‘미치’의 개념을 건축에 도입하고, 다양한 기능을 서로 연결한다. 강철과 목재 혼합을 사용하여 새로운 반투명 내진 전단벽을 개발했다. 구조물에 목재를 사용함으로써 구조벽이 가구로 취급될 수 있도록 하고 이용자들이 새로운 공간을 만든다. 모든 층에 이러한 특성을 반영하여, 벽은 ‘미치’를 돌아다니는 사람들의 상징이 된다. 사람의 움직임을 가로막는 거대한 벽 대신 인간의 활동을 이어주는 구조로 기능한다.
