Temporary Site of Shengli Market – Creation of Spatial Order

As part of the urban regeneration project in Bokyang City, a temporary market was needed to replace the Shengli Market while it was being renovated. The site selected for the temporary market was a plot of land across from Shengli Market. The architect designed a sustainable building that could be repurposed or recycled after its role as a temporary market was fulfilled. Traditional markets have common homogeneous and chaotic problems, and the architect attempted to relieve these issues by creating a building structure similar to a vegetable warehouse. Each store and display area was carefully analyzed and arranged to bring order to the chaotic space. A rectangular pyramid structure was constructed, and a canopy was installed at the entrance to separate the areas within the market.

복양시의 도시재생 사업으로 승리 시장을 재생하는 동안 역할을 대신할 임시 시장이 필요했다. 이를 위한 부지로 선정된 곳이 승리 시장 맞은 편의 대지였다. 건축가는 임시 시장이라는 특수성에 맞추어 지속가능하고, 역할을 다한 후에는 다른 용도로 사용되거나 재활용될 수 있는 건물을 만들고자 했다. 전통 시장은 동질적이며 무질서한 공통의 문제를 가지고 있었다. 건축가는 이러한 문제를 해결하기 위해 마치 채소 창고와 같은 건축구조를 시도했다. 각 상점과 개방 진열대는 철저한 분석 아래에 배치되었고 이를 통해 무질서한 공간에 질서를 만들 수 있었다. 직사각형 피라미드 구조를 적용해 입구의 캐노피를 설치하고 시장 내의 영역을 구분하는 기능을 추가했다.
