In 2018, The Seoul Metropolitan Government hosted an international competition and called for the ideas to design World’s first pioneer Robot & AI Museum (RAIM) to support public education in robotics and increase the public knowledge and interests in robots. Turkish practice Melike Altınışık Architects - MAA which has gained international recognition with their latest project Istanbul's futuristic 369m tall TV and Radio Tower, has won an international competition for the Robot & AI Museum located in Seoul. RAIM is a specialized science museum and a core cultural facility that will serve as a base for the 4th industrial revolution in the northeast region where entrepreneurship, job, housing, culture, and commercial functions are harmonized. It is expected to inspire new vitality in the region as a science and culture network that connects researchers of nearby universities, research institutes, and corporations and citizens. MAA preferred a sphere like non-directional, fluid, and organic form instead of rigid geometry and orthogonal forms. MAA used this form language as a design tool for meeting functional requirements and conditions which creates its own universe for the robots and their visitors inside this museum. It creates a wide range of possibilities for connection with urban orientation and public spaces within its non-directional form generation. RAIM which plays a catalytic role in advancing and promoting science, technology, and innovation throughout society, is not only going to exhibit robots it will become the ‘Living Room’ for smart technologies which can allow people to interact with Robots, AI, AR, VR, XR and more….

 

The journey will start at the entrance gate with the welcoming robot and RAIM will launch its first exhibition with smart design and smart building methodologies. RAIM will start taking its visitors into a unique experience where they will start experiencing the dissolving the sharp boundary between dualities of this world and the world of Robots & AI related smart technologies. Especially the vertical exhibition tunnel located in the centre of RAIM is a special space. So, people will be able to directly dive into a journey with a scientific, technological, and innovative mission. Instead of using the conventional construction methodologies and MAA aim to use from design, manufacturing, construction to services smart technologies. Because we live in the era of 4th industrial revolution, and RAIM should manifest the developments and innovations for our build environment. RAIM will become a landmark of Korea for 4th industrial revolution. It expected to be completed with the official opening slated in late 2023.

 

서울시가 2018년 로봇 공학 교육을 지원함과 동시에 로봇에 대한 대중들의 관심과 지식을 높이기 위해 세계 최초의 로봇인공지능과학관(RAIM)을 위한 국제 공모전을 개최했다. 서울 로봇인공지능과학관 국제 공모전에서 우승을 차지 하기도 했다. RAIM은 과학관이면서도 기업 활동과 일, 주거, 문화, 상업 기능까지 담당하는 동북아시아 4차 산업혁명의 핵심 문화시설이 될 것이다. 주변 대학의 연구기관과 연구원 그리고 기업과 시민을 연결해주는 과학과 문화의 네트워크로써 새로운 활기를 북돋아 줄 것으로 기대된다. MAA는 딱딱한 느낌의 기하학적인 직각 형태보다는 어떠한 방향도 없는 부드럽고 유기적 형태의 구 모양을 선호한다. MAA는 이런 형태의 언어를 기능적 조건을 충족시키기 위한 설계의 도구로 사용하여 과학관 내부를 로봇과 방문객을 위한 우주로 만들었다. 무 방향성의 형태 내에서 도시와 공간을 연결해주는 무한한 가능성을 만들어 낸다. 사회 전반에 걸쳐 과학, 기술, 혁신의 발전에 있어 촉매 역할을 하는 RAIM은 사회 전반에 걸쳐 과학과 기술, 혁신의 발전에 있어 촉매역할을 하게 될 것이다. 또한, 로봇 전시를 위한 공간이자 인공지능(AI), 증강현실(AR), 가상현실(VR), 확장현실(XR)을 비롯해 사람과 로봇이 상호 작용하기 위한 스마트 기술의 ‘응접실’ 역할을 하게 될 것이다.


과학관의 여정은 출입구에서 웰컴 로봇과 함께 첫발을 내 딛으며 스마트 설계와 스마트 건축 방법이 적용된 RAIM에서의 첫 전시가 시작된다. RAIM의 방문객들은 이 세계와 로봇과 AI 관련 스마트 기술의 이원성 사이의 선명한 경계가 허물어지는 특별한 경험을 하게 될 것이다. 특히, RAIM 중앙의 수직 전시 터널은 특별한 공간이다. 사람들은 과학과 기술, 혁신이라는 여정에 직접 뛰어들 수 있게 된다. 기존의 건설 방법을 사용하는 대신에 MAA는 설계를 비롯하여 제조, 건설, 서비스까지 스마트 기술을 사용하는 것을 목표로 하고 있다. 4차 산업혁명 시대에 RAIM은 우리 건축 환경에 적절한 개발과 혁신을 보여줄 것이다. RAIM은 4차 산업혁명 시대에 걸맞는 대한민국의 랜드마크가 될 것이다. 2023년 말 정식 개통을 거쳐 완공될 예정이다.
