Istanbul’s futuristic 369m tall new telecommunication tower, that included advanced construction methodologies, which has opened its doors to visitors in May 2021, seeks a sense of motion and rhythm within its silhouette that changes when viewed from different directions around Istanbul. It is the reflection of its nature. Tower has an organic structure that is not fa miliar within the urban fabric of Istanbul. The main design inputs such as wind direction, local topography, and the sceneries reflected in the form of the tower. Its architectural formations combine elegance and beauty with math and geometry, whose innovative concept allows inhabitable spaces to be attached to the whole of the tower’s core. In this unique tower which requires advanced engineering techniques both in terms of architectural design and construction methodology, all the design features, architectural planning and material selections were made considering these processes. While wind testing was employed to confirm the monumental structure’s overall stability, it was also used to develop the unique facade design and optimize how the load of the building envelope would act on the concrete core. The engineered facade not only provides structural optimization but allows for inhabitable space to radiate around the tower’s central concrete core.
A Building that Turns into a Space of Dialogue and Exploration
The telecommunication tower will house two-story 360 view restaurant and observation deck overlooking views of Istanbul, from Asia to Europe. There is also a public foyer, cafe, exhibition and mediatic areas inside the entrance podium. Interior design was developed based on the fact that the building includes unique spaces that offer a new experience and contain futuristic design characters. The main purpose is to create surprising encounters by establishing strong relationships with where it is located, using light, nature, and spatial spaces; so that it may change people’s perspective, and courage them think differently.
2021년 5월 문을 연 이스탄불의 캄리카 타워는 미래 지향적인 형태의 통신 타워다. 타워는 첨단 공법으로 지어졌으며, 이스탄불 내에서 보이는 방향에 따라 변화하는 형태를 가지고 있다. 이스탄불이라는 도시에서 이러한 유기적 구조의 건축물은 흔하지 않아, 도시에 새로운 즐거움을 주고 있다. 타워를 설계할 때, 디자인에 적용된 주요한 요소들은 바람의 방향, 국지적 지형, 풍경이다. 타워의 우아함과 아름다움은 형태는 수학과 기하학으로 도출된 혁신적인 콘셉트에서 나왔다. 뿐만 아니라, 타워의 코어 부분은 거주할 수 있도록 설계되었으며, 이는 설계, 시공 모두 고도의 엔지니어링 기술을 요구했다. 타워의 구조적 안정성을 확보하기 위하여 풍동 시험이 사용되었으며, 이는 독특한 외관 디자인의 개발과 건물 외피의 하중이 콘크리트 코어에 작용하는 방식을 최적화하는 데에도 사용되었다. 공학적인 입면은 최적화된 구조를 제공할 뿐만 아니라, 타워의 중앙 콘크리트 코어 주위에 사람이 거주할 수 있는 공간을 만들기 위해서이기도 하다.
대화와 탐구의 공간으로 변하는 건물
이 통신 타워에는 두 개 층에 걸쳐 360도 전망이 가능한 레스토랑과 아시아에서 유럽까지 이스탄불의 전경을 조망할 수 있는 전망대가 들어선다. 입구 기단부 내부에는 공용 로비, 카페, 미디어, 전시 공간 등이 마련되어 있다. 전체적인 인테리어는 방문객들에게 새로운 경험을 제공할 수 있도록 미래지향적이고 독특한 곡선을 기반으로 디자인됐다. 빛, 자연, 공간감이 느껴지는 캄리카 타워는 도시와 강한 관계를 형성하며, 사람들에게 놀라운 만남을 선사할 것이다. 새로운 만남으로 사람들의 관점을 바꾸고, 다양한 생각을 하도록 만들며, 공간 그 이상의 역할을 할 것이다.
