Located in Sineup-ri, Hwacheon, Gangwon-do, 'Gahwamansaseong' is located in a small village in the mountains of Gangwon-do. Old farmhouses have reached their limit of usefulness, and are being converted into new houses one by one. 'Gahwamansaseong is a project in which the owner decided to demolish the farmhouse where the previous owner lived, and build a new house on the land behind it. The design work began through a connected relationship, and it was intended to faithfully reflect the characteristics of rural life and family life. Rather than revealing it, the architect wanted to have an internal stability, and it would be a warm and healthy house that could withstand the harsh winter well. Rather than being greedy, the architect would like to build a house full of the fragrance of life in an appropriate way without overflowing. The land behind the existing farmhouse was on a slope that was being used as a field, so when an embankment was built and the site was cleared, the land was about 1.2m higher than the existing private house. Over the slate roof of the existing private house to be demolished, the spaces were arranged naturally in line with the sunny land with fields and mountains in the distance, and the building was planned with a simple and honest form as much as possible. The entry to the living room and the deck in front of the entrance was planned with a ramp instead of stairs, and the areas in which you spend a long time, such as the entrance, greenhouse, living room, dining room, and bedroom, were arranged so that sunlight and views from the south could be shared. In particular, the southern entrance from the deck was planned as a special welcoming space to this house, allowing it to function as a small greenhouse based on the desire of the owner who likes to grow flowers throughout the house. In addition, the living and dining areas, frequently visited by guests, and the children's rooms and master bedrooms are naturally divided. The entrance and the greenhouse become a single screen when viewed from the inside, distinguishing the nature of the space, and is designed so that whenever you pass through the hallway, you can feel the sunlight and see the panoramic view of the greenhouse and the plants in between. An attic space is provided for the grandchildren so that their daughter’s family can stay, and the interior of the single-story “Gahwa Mansaseong” house is built according to the nature of the space, making the most of the advantages of a single-story house, such as a spacious living room with a gabled ceiling, an attic space, and an integrated guest room. Also, it has different ceiling heights and ceiling shapes.
