Sena House

Sena House is located in the rectangular site which is squeezed between two narrow roads. A physical components surrounding the plot are crowded buildings. As a three-story house, The 1st floor consists of a room all of which are embraced by an L-shape staircase rising up to the 2nd floor. A certain angle of this set of stairs provides an open view and an extra wide space to extend a journey, allowing the users to spend time to perceive the spacious atmosphere that covers two floors, spread over to other areas that they are about to arrive. The 2nd floor, taken from the stairs at this area, the glass block wall projects natural light from outside, different shades of light according to each period of day, creating the glimmering, coloring atmosphere and stories for the interior. Through this glass block wall, this element functions as a glass curtain. The 3rd floor is used for the three bedrooms. The walls facing outside of each bedroom are filtered with two-layer walls, that is, a glass block wall that continues from the 2nd floor as an outer layer and a mirror wall that enhances the feeling of privacy as well as smoothing light from outside as an inner layer: a conversation to negotiate with the sun. The three layers of the building surface are laid out differently, even it may seem unnecessary, but, in this context, it is absolutely necessary. The top layer is covered by fine black stone flakes and orange-brown clay that are smoothly blended in, gently handled, and woven together with the long strip clerestories that scatter throughout the large glass block wall. This, apart from functioning as an actual wall, is like a screen projecting life from outside to inside and from inside to outside, putting things together into one story, in the same context, a living together of different concepts.

밝은 흰색, 점토, 돌 조각, 투명성을 가진 세나 하우스는 환경에 어울리는 자신만의 문맥을 갖는다. 직사각형 대지는 좁은 두 도로 사이에 딱 붙어있다. 북쪽으로는 2층 주택이, 작은 길 옆의 동쪽으로는 주차공간의 입구로 사용되는 깊은 공간이 위치한다. 남쪽의 높은 도로와 서쪽으로 배치된 안뜰까지 출입구를 깊게 해서 도로와 이어지고, 또 반대편 건물에 영향을 적게 끼치도록 집의 앞쪽은 잔디로 남겨져있다. 3층짜리 주택의 1층은 연못을 지나 2층 높이의 홀을 만나면서 시작된다. 정문을 들어서면 거실, 식당, 팬트리, 부엌이 배치되어 있고, 2층과 연결된 L자형 계단이 모든 공간을 감싸고 있다. 계단의 각도를 일정하게 유지하면서 시야를 확장시키는 탁 트인 전망과 여분의 넓은 공간을 제공해 거주자가 두 층에 걸쳐 폭넓은 공간의 분위기를 느낄 수 있도록 했다. 2층은 일상에서 가장 많은 시간을 보내게 될 거실이 위치한다. 이 층의 유리블록으로 만들어진 벽은 외부에서 들어오는 자연광을 투사하고, 시간에 따라 다른 색조의 빛을 반짝여 집의 내부를 색칠한다. 이 유리블록 파사드를 통해 집 안에서 경치를 바라보며 시간의 흐름을 지각할 수 있고, 외부에서 볼 때는 유리 커튼의 역할을 한다. 3층은 3개의 침실로 쓰인다. 각 침실의 바깥쪽으로는 2층의 유리블록 벽이 이어져 빛이 내부로 부드럽게 들어올 뿐 아니라 사생활을 보호하는 거울같은 역할을 한다. 전체적으로 싸여있는 유리블록 벽은 자연광을 받아들이면서도 적절하게 실내환경을 유지한다. 건물 외부에서 바라보는 세 층은 서로 다르게 배치되어 있다. 불필요해 보일 수 있지만 그 공간의 맥락에서는 필요한 조치였다. 미세한 흑석 조각과 갈색의 점토로 덮인 위층은 큰 유리블록 벽 전체에 흩어진 끈 모양의 설치물과 부드럽게 섞이며 분위기를 자아낸다. 건축가는 재료들의 섞임과 외부와 내부가 서로를 투영하는 화면을 만들어 냄으로써 ‘서로 다른 개념으로 함께 살아가는 하나의 이야기’를 만들고자 했다.
