When walking along an alley in Yeonhui-dong, a unique building covered in ivy can be found. eert kitchen is a small brunch cafe on the first and second floors of this building.

The client wanted to use water from the design concept meeting, and after having a long discussion, we designed a table filled with water. The table filled with water creates the illusion of eating on the surface of water. Though the client, more than anything, wanted those who dine here to be able to enjoy romantic contemplation while looking at the reflection of the sky and themselves in the water, even for a short time. Consequently, the second floor was planned to be used only as a dining room, and the kitchen was placed on the first floor.

We wanted the first floor, which is first encountered by the customers, to be a welcoming place in the warm atmosphere of the space. So, the furniture was designed using old sleepers and old materials. Copper or zinc was used for the furniture’s frames. Despite being metals, copper and zinc are materials that have an unprocessed and rough charm. Hence, they better harmonized with the traces of time given by the sleepers and old materials. Combined with the old ornaments collected by the client, the first floor became a space where one can feel the warmth and quiet atmosphere of the wood.

As for the design of the second floor, the sense of openness given by the high ceiling and open windows was maximized, and white was chosen to further emphasize the table filled with water. Gray was chosen for the floor for the same reason. The client’s sense of choosing cute props and orange furniture was added to this minimal space, creating a charming space unique to eert kitchen.

연희동 골목길을 따라 걷다 보면 담쟁이덩굴에 덮인 독특한 건물을 만날 수 있다. 이이알티 키친은 이 건물의 1층과 2층에 자리 잡은 13평의 작은 브런치 카페이다.

건축주는 디자인 콘셉트 미팅 때부터 물을 사용하길 원했고, 오랜 협의 끝에 물이 담긴 테이블을 디자인하게 되었다. 물이 담긴 테이블은 마치 수면 위에서 식사를 하는 것 같은 착각을 불러일으킨다. 하지만 건축주는 무엇보다 이곳에서 식사하는 사람들이 짧은 시간이지만 물에 비친 하늘과 나 자신을 바라보며 낭만적인 사색을 즐길 수 있길 바랬다. 때문에 2층은 온전히 다이닝룸으로 쓰일 수 있도록 계획했고, 1층에는 주방을 배치했다.

고객이 제일 먼저 마주하게 될 1층은 따뜻한 공간 분위기 속에 환영받는 장소가 되길 원했다. 따라서 오래된 침목과 고재를 사용하여 가구들을 디자인했다. 가구에 쓰인 프레임들은 구로나 아연으로 적용했다. 금속 소재이긴 하지만 구로나 아연은 가공되지 않은 듯한 거친 매력이 느껴지는 소재들이다. 때문에 침목과 고재가 주는 시간의 흔적들과 더욱 잘 어우러졌다. 거기에 건축주가 수집한 오래된 장식품들까지 더해져 1층은 나무가 주는 따뜻함과 고즈넉한 분위기가 느껴지는 공간이 되었다.

2층 디자인은 높은 천장과 탁 트인 통창이 주는 개방감을 극대화하고, 물이 담긴 테이블을 더욱 강조하기 위해 전체적으로 화이트 색상을 선택했다. 바닥을 그레이 색상으로 선택한 것도 같은 이유에서였다. 이런 미니멀 한 공간 속에 오렌지 색상의 가구와 아기자기한 소품들을 선택한 건축주의 센스가 더해져 이이알티 키친만의 매력적인 공간이 완성되었다.
