The site, located on the side of a 40m-wide road in Suseong-gu, Daegu, is visually open on two sides. It is a long and narrow site that blends well with its surroundings. We wanted to create a landmark with a form that would keep its identity over time. The architecture in the city continues to change and develop with the passage of time, but we chose an approach of which the spatial form will continue to respond to changes and growth of the city for a long time.

We divided the space consisting of planes at an optimal ratio, with the repeated process of finding a mass whose overall form does not lose its sculpture-like sensitivity. After many attempts and brainstorming of how to divide and combine forms, the building was completed by a repetitive process of creating the final form with windows, spaces, and walls as architectural elements, based on the most proportionally completed mass.

In terms of spatial compositional features, form elements of the exterior were brought into the interior and maximum spatial efficiency was satisfied, considering that it is a commercial building design. The balconies were designed to give personality to each floor, with consideration to the connection between the light entering from the windows and the exterior space. They also allow the outside and indoor spaces to communicate, providing vitality and energy to the interior.

시간을 품은 조각 대구 수성구 40m 도로 변에 자리한 대지는 시각적으로 두 면이 개방되어 있으며 좁고 긴 형태였다. 주변과 조화되면서 랜드마크적 이미지로 시간이 지나도 형태의 개성을 잃어버리지 않는 건축물을 추구하고 싶었다. 도시 속의 건축물은 시간의 흐름에 따라 계속 변화하고 발전하지만 도시의 성장 속에서도 지속적이며 변화에 대응하는 공간 형태를 만들고자 했다.

먼저, 면으로 구성된 공간을 최적의 비율로 분할했다. 조각같은 감성을 이어붙이며 큰 윤곽을 찾아가는 과정이 무수히 반복됐다. 형태를 분할하고 결합하면서 많은 시도와 고민 끝에 가장 비례적으로 완벽한 매스를 만들었고, 이를 바탕으로 창호 계획, 공간 배치, 그리고 벽(면)으로 지금같은 엘제이에셋빌딩의 형태가 나올 수 있었다.

외부의 형태적인 요소는 내부 공간에도 적용됐으며, 상업 시설로서 용도에 따라 최대한의 공간을 확보하도록 효율적으로 배치했다. 내부 공간 깊숙이 스며드는 채광과 외부 공간과의 연계된 발코니를 각층마다 계획했다. 채광과 발코니 계획으로 내부 공간에 개성을 부여하면서 생동감과 활기를 담아낼 수 있었다.
