Church architecture must go beyond the essence of worship, education, fellowship, and service to fulfill social roles and responsibilities as a public space for local people and the city. It is a play place where everyone wants to go and stay, it is always open, and nature, architecture, and programs remove boundaries from the surroundings.

The site enables various spaces to allow meetings and diverse communities to be created among people with the three-dimensional arrangement of roads and movement lines and through ways of laying boards on the top of existing valleys and overlapping programs in the spaces between boards. In particular, the community stand in the entrance hall serves as a platform for the building that distributes and integrates the movement lines and spaces. As you climb, you enter different spaces and programs and experience light and space forms. The visible chapel is another space that instills interest in people. The small chapel answers the essence of faith.

The open program enables the grand chapel to function as a performance hall, the small chapel as a local wedding location, the community stand as a library, and the cafes and children’s rooms as spaces and playgrounds for mothers and their children. In particular, the concert hall for the younger generation, the streets of youth, the book cafe, and the empty yard are connected to the neighboring parks, and are scenery and cultural places for the locals and the city.

용인 글로리 파크

교회건축은 예배와 교육, 친교, 봉사의 본질을 넘어 지역 주민과 도시에 공공공간으로서 사회적 역할과 책임을 다해야 한다. 자연, 건축, 프로그램이 주변과의 경계를 없애는 동시에 항상 열려 있는, 누구나 가고 싶고 머물고 싶은 활동의 장(Play place)처럼.

용인 글로리 파크는 기존 계곡 지형 위에 살포시 판을 앉히고, 사이사이 공간에 프로그램을 중첩시키는 방식을 통해 설계됐다. 다양한 공간을 길과 동선의 입체적인 배열은 사람들 간의 만남과 다양한 커뮤니티를 형성하도록 돕는다. 진입 홀의 커뮤니티 스탠드는 동선과 공간을 배분하고 통합시키는 플랫폼 역할을 한다. 오르내리면서 다른 공간과 프로그램으로 접근할 수 있으며, 빛과 공간의 형태를 물리적인 공간으로 경험하도록 만든다. 보이는 예배당은 건물 속에 중첩되어 있는 또 하나의 공간이며 사람들에게 흥미를 유발한다. 소예배당은 신앙의 본질에 대답한다.

또한, 공간의 프로그램은 쓰임과 용도에 맞게 사용되도록 만들어졌다. 대예배당은 공연장으로, 소예배당은 지역주민의 예식장으로, 커뮤니티 스탠드는 도서관으로, 카페와 어린이실들은 엄마와 아이를 위한 공간이자 놀이터로 쓰일 수 있다. 특히 젊은 세대를 위한 공연장, 젊음의 거리, 북카페와 비워진 마당은 이웃 공원과 연계되는 동시에 지역 주민과 도시에 풍경의 공간이자 문화의 장소이다.
