최근 마드리드와 바르셀로나에 건축 및 인테리어 디자인 스튜디오 엘 데파르타멘토(El Departamento)를 오픈하였다. 프로젝트 라브스터(PJ. Lobster)를 위하여 바르셀로나 에이샴플라(Eixample) 지역에 최신식 고급 안경점을 열었다. 20세기 초반의 다양한 카탈로니아 스타일을 지닌 고대 귀족 건물에 자리한 이 공간은 브랜드의 하이테크 성격과 합리주의적 특성이 조화를 이루며 미니멀리즘과 단단한 재료가 혼재되어 있다. 엘 데파르타멘토(El Departamento)가 표현하고자 하는 성숙도를 구현해낸 이중 공간이다.

 

역사적으로도 유명한 현지의 과일 가게가 있었던 1층에는 건물의 양쪽을 연결하는 4개의 큰 아치가 있는 독특한 석조 외관을 가지고 있다. 정사각형 형태와 5m가 넘는 높이의 이 기념비적인 공간은 중앙의 기둥을 중심으로 하여 4개의 사분면으로 공간이 나뉘어져 있고 그 중 하나는 메자닌으로 이루어져 있다. 반면, 4개의 웅장한 느낌의 아치는 내부와 외부를 이어주는 창 역할을 함과 동시에 프로젝트의 핵심이라고 할 수 있다. 스튜디오에서 맞춤 디자인한 스테인레스 철제 선반은 격자 모양으로 되어 있다. 이 선반은 섬세한 메커니즘으로 되어 있어 조명을 받으며 똑바로 서있을 수 있다. 또한 엘 데파르타멘토(El Departamento)는 의도적으로 공간의 모퉁이에서 입구를 두지 않고 파티월의 아치를 주 출입구로 사용하도록 하여 건물 입구가 주는 위엄을 강조하였다.

 

공간의 벽은 청회색으로 하였으며 역사적인 석회 모르타르로 코팅하였다. 역사적으로 이 지역에 있던 바르셀로나의 상류층과 귀족 가문의 집단적인 유대를 암시하는 듯한 건축학적 특징을 가지고 있다. 스테인레스 철제로 만든 가구, 거울, 선반과 계단에 이르기까지 하나의 거대한 덩어리로 통합되어 조화와 일관성을 이룬다. 공간이 갖고 있는 고귀함은 은색 석회 바닥까지 이어져 회색 빛 톤의 수직 표면, 천장, 철제 가구와 함께 조화를 이룬다.

Following recent openings in Madrid and Barcelona, the architecture and interior design studio El Departamento launches the latest optical boutique for PJ. Lobster in the Eixample district of Barcelona. In an ancient noble building with eclectic Catalan style from the early 20th century, the space harmonizes the high-tech nature of the brand with a strong rationalist character, blending minimalism with substantial materiality. It is a dual space that embodies the maturity point El Departamento has reached.

 

The ground floor, historically hosting a well-known local fruit store, features a distinctive stone façade with four large arches connecting the two sides of the establishment. This monumental space, with a square morphology and a free height of over 5 meters, is structured around a central pillar dividing the area into four quadrants, one of them with a mezzanine. On the other hand, the four grand arches not only serve as a monumental window connecting the interior and exterior in both directions but also act as a key focal point of the project. They display, in a lattice-like manner, the custom-designed stainless-steel shelves by the studio. These are self-supporting shelves that delicately resolve the necessary mechanics to be illuminated and stand upright. Moreover, El Departamento intentionally avoids the entrance from the corner of the space, opting for the main access through the arch attached to the party wall, emphasizing the majesty of the building's entrance.

 

The walls of the space have been coated with a historical lime mortar in a bluish-gray shade. An architectural feature that alludes to the collective imaginary association with Barcelona's high society and its "blue blood," as traditionally, this sector has historically occupied this part of the city. Tubular elements of stainless-steel integrate as monolithic blocks for furniture, mirrors, shelves and stairs, maintaining visual harmony and coherence. The nobility of the space extends to the silver travertine floor, where its grayish tone dialogues with the vertical surfaces, ceiling and steel furniture.
