일상생활을 위한 지원과 무대의 창의적인 변화와 함께 집안의 공간에 대한 탐구가 계속해서 이루어 지고 있다. 건축 표준, 법적, 문화적 표준에서 거주 다양성에 대한 인식은 아직 자리를 잡지 못하고 있는 것 같다. 여전히 주택은 직업을 유형별로 분류하는데 그친 정형화된 가족을 위한 정적인 장소로 간주된다. 규범과 규정에 따라 건설된 수천 채의 아파트는 가족에 대한 확고한 이미지를 따르고 있다. 이 이미지는 계획되어진 것인가?
가정과 주택은 이러한 예상되는 삶의 움직임을 어떻게 흡수할까? 건축가 메리 오티스 스티븐스(Mary Otis Stevens)가 인간 생명의 흐름(Flux of Human Life)이 일시적 혹은 영구적으로 그룹화하고 해체하는 모습은 매우 자연스러운 존재 방식이라고 했다. 우리 가정이라는 집단의 구성원으로 순응한다는 것은 공간에 대한 반응이라고 생각하는가? 이 아파트의 경우도 이전에는 치과로 사용되었듯이 ‘끊임없는 변화’에 열린 상태를 유지하여 때에따라 일어날 수 있는 일들을 받아드리려고 했다. 공간적 진화의 가능성에 마주하고 노력했다. 기존의 만들어 놓은 기반이 도움이 된다. 공간은 구조적으로 자유롭다. 북쪽 개구부에 수직으로 놓인 2개의 채광창을 통해 빛이 들어온다.
개방성에 대한 아이디어는 벽이 많지 않은 물리적 환경에서 비롯된 것이다. 공간, 얽힘과 부드러운 인클로저에 필요한 느낌은 파티션 이외의 다른 수단으로 정의된다. 커튼과 유리 표면은 인지, 지연, 개방과 폐쇄, 기타 중간의 상황들이라는 가능성을 만들어낸다. 풀하우스에는 직물과 가구, 조명이 편안하게 펼쳐지고 시각적으로나 경험적으로 다양한 상황을 불러일으킬 수 있는 일종의 지각의 전환이 일어날 수 있는 계기를 만들어준다. 국내 자재는 주로 산업용 목재 패널이나 기본적인 바닥, 파티션에 쓰였다. 가구나 오브제, 카펫등 인테리어 요소는 마치 살아있는 것 같고 관중 없는 역동적인 연극무대처럼 관계와 대화, 움직임과 순간에 보여지는 것들이 모두 한 부분이다. 무질서의 가능성도 항상 존재한다.
The exploration of domestic spaces goes on, working on creative variations of supports and stages for the everyday life. The recognition of inhabitation diversities does not seem to own a place in architectural standards, legal and cultural ones. Houses are still considered in its vast majority as static places for normalized families that our profession likes to classify in types. The thousands of apartments that are thought and built under official norms and regulation follow a very determined image of the family. Is this image programmatic?
How do homes and houses absorb these expected movements of life? What architect Mary Otis Stevens described as the Flux of Human Life is just our very natural way of being, of grouping and ungrouping temporarily or permanently. Does the elasticity of the inhabitants as a group find spatial responses in our homes? In the case of this apartment, a former dentist cabinet, the attempt is to welcome that “flux” and stay open, to keep the possibilities of spatial evolution exposed to what might happen in time. The existing base helps. The space is structurally free, letting the light in through 2 transversal skylights, perpendicular to the important north-oriented openings.
The very idea of openness translates into a physical experience as not much is walled. Spaces, confinement and the needed feeling of gentle enclosures are defined by other means other than partitions. Curtains and glazed surfaces arrange the possibilities of perceiving and impeding, opening, closing and other in-between situations. The full house becomes a sort of perceptive shifting machine as textiles, furniture and light unfold at ease, provoking different situations, visual and experiential. The domestic material experience is mainly wrapped up in industrial wood panels, obsessively used floors and necessary partitions. Furniture, objects, carpets built-in elements, are dealt with as if everything was alive, as a dynamic theater stage without spectators where everything is part of a relation, a conversation, moving and displacing around at any moment. The possibility of disorder is present at all times.
