"SOMA POD" is an offline service space for a metaverse virtual office called "SOMA," a new work environment for ZIGBANG, a company that proposes solutions to the future of real estate and space.
It can be said that the biggest change in office over the past two years due to the pandemic is the work environment and way. Most companies were flexible about switching to telecommuting. However, even with the advent of the Andemic era, many people who experienced telecommuting preferred home and were reluctant to go to the office. Conversely, I am now deeply concerned about an efficient office that is more comfortable and can focus more on work than at home.
When the pandemic began, ZIGBANG eliminated its existing headquarters and all employees began working remotely online on the metaverse "SOMA". During online remote work, SOMAPOD, an offline service space, is used when a task that requires high concentration without interference from anyone or emotional communication of members is needed.
This space is an office concept that strongly connects online and offline that has not been seen in existing offices, and "SOMAPOD" is designed to provide a comfortable and focused space with an open meeting space and hidden rest space to improve work performance. "SOMAPOD" means a small 2Mx2.5M device with a built-in program that is freely accessible and accessible at any time. Here, we wondered whether only a small closed space used by one person was optimized for immersion, and we found that the work environment in a closed space rather blurred concentration and could not stay in the space for a long time. In order to work well and stay here for a long time, I thought it was an important task to look at the open view or to provide emotional comfort in contact with nature.
In order to solve this problem, we placed a POD to be used by one person at a window with a good view, and made the front of each POD into glass, opening our view and allowing us to look outside during work. Inside the POD, a plant garden is placed to look at the green plants of all seasons through the window, and when you go outside the POD, you can hear the sound of birds, wind, and water, so that users can feel closer to nature. The ceiling of the hallway and pillar contrasting with the bright-toned POD gives a calm impression so that it can be concentrated on work. The light falling through the ceiling of the white grid gently lit the corridor and neutralized the heavy clumps and atmosphere of the standardized threads. In addition, the shadows created through the grid louver of the ceiling add an external feeling, recognize it as an external space due to the trees placed between the corridors, and place spaces where you can relax while feeling cozy warmth. The inner hall hopes to deploy virtual digital windows that can be connected to natural plants, extending to users in a variety of time zones and infinite spaces with rich content in digital windows, providing better experience and sustainability, and more than just office capabilities.
“SOMA POD”은 부동산과 공간의 미래에 대한 솔루션을 제안하는 기업인 ZIGBANG 의 새로운 업무 환경인 “SOMA”라는 메타버스 가상 오피스의 오프라인 서비스 공간이다.
팬데믹으로 인해 지난 2년간 오피스의 가장 큰 변화는 업무환경과 방식이라고 말할 수 있다. 대부분의 기업들은 재택근무로 전환하는 것을 유연하게 받아들였다. 하지만 앤데믹 시대가 도래했음에도 재택근무를 경험한 많은 사람들은 재택을 더 선호하게 되고 오피스로의 출근을 꺼려하는 현상이 발생하게 되었다. 역으로 이제는 재택보다 편안하고 업무에 더 집중할 수 있는 효율적인 오피스에 대해 깊게 고민하게 되었다.
ZIGBANG 은 팬데믹이 시작되자 기존의 본사를 없애고 모든 직원들은 메타버스 “SOMA” 에서 온라인으로 원격 근무를 시작하였다. 온라인 원격근무 중 간혹 필요에 따라 누구의 방해도 없이 높은 집중을 요구하는 업무나 구성원들의 감정 깊은 커뮤니케이션이 필요할 때 오프라인 서비스공간인 “SOMA POD” 을 이용하게 된다.
이 공간은 기존의 오피스에서 볼 수 없었던 온라인과 오프라인을 강력하게 연결하는 오피스 개념으로써 “SOMA POD” 은 개인 프라이버시가 보장되며 편안하고 집중할 수 있는 공간을 제공하고 열린 회의 공간과 숨어있는 휴게공간 등이 적절하게 배치되어 업무의 성과를 높일 수 있도록 설계되었다. “SOMA POD”은 어느 때나 자유롭게 접근, 접속이 가능한 프로그램이 내장된 2Mx2.5M의 소형의 기기를 뜻한다. 여기서 우리는 단지 1인이 이용하는 작은 폐쇄적인 공간만이 몰입에 최적화된 공간인지에 대한 고민을 하였고, 폐쇄적인 공간에서의 업무 환경은 오히려 집중력을 흐리게 하고 그 공간에 오래 머무를 수 없게 된다는 것을 알 수 있었다. 이곳에서 일을 잘 하며 오래 머무를 수 있기 위해서는, 탁 트인 전망을 바라보거나 자연과 맞닿아 정서적으로 편안함을 주는 것이 중요한 과제라고 생각하였다.
우리는 이러한 문제를 해결하기 위해 조금은 무모할 수도 있는 방법으로, 전망이 좋은 창가에 1인이 이용할 POD을 배치하고 각 POD의 전면을 유리로 만들어 시야를 개방하고 업무 중에도 바깥을 바라볼 수 있게 하였다. POD 내부에서는 유리창 너머로 사계절 푸른 식물을 바라볼 수 있도록 식물 정원을 배치하고 POD 바깥으로 나가면 새소리와 바람 소리 물소리가 들리도록 설계하여 이용자들이 조금 더 자연을 가깝게 느낄 수 있도록 하였다. 밝은 톤의 POD 과 대비되는 복도와 기둥의 천정은 차분한 인상을 주어 업무에 집중될 수 있도록 했다. 흰색 그리드의 천정을 통해 떨어지는 빛은 부드럽게 복도를 밝히고 규격화된 실들의 무거운 덩어리감과 분위기를 중화 시켰다. 또한 천정의 그리드 루버를 통해 생기는 그림자는 외부의 느낌을 더하고, 복도 사이사이 배치된 나무로 인해 외부공간처럼 인식하게 하고 POD에서 잠시 나와 아늑한 온기를 느끼며 휴식할 수 있는 공간들을 배치하였다. 내부 홀은 자연 식물과 연결될 수 있는 가상의 디지털 창을 배치하여 사용자에게 디지털 창의 풍성한 컨텐츠로 다양한 시간대와 무한한 공간으로 확장되어 더 나은 경험과 지속 가능성을 제공하며 오피스의 기능을 넘어서 그 이상의 더 많은 가능성을 가질 수 있기를 바란다.
