WINE & BISTRO OOMPH

Wine & Bistro OOMPH is located in a street where the old atmosphere of Sangdo-dong, Dongjak-gu, can be felt. This project started from the wish of the client, who wanted to hide a hideout with a different charm in the alley before the unique ambiance of the street was lost due to redevelopment.

Beyond the entrance, which reveals its presence on the familiar roadside, a passage that resembles a secret garden naturally leads to the space. The heavy rock at the end of the passage serves as a symbolic objet of OOMPH and at the same time informs the entrance to the space, and provokes curiosity. The building before the remodeling was built in the 1950s, and it was a site with a secretive ambiance as being surrounded by buildings all around allowed it to naturally hide. The client wanted to design a wine bar with the motif of a secret hideout here. Based on this, we created OOMPH, a wine bar that depicts symbolism on a small site, with the concept of ‘rainy night’.

The lounge, which naturally continues from the access road, uses the same brick as the floor finish to draw the exterior into the interior and guide the circulation, and the level of the sofa tables were lowered to create a comfortable atmosphere. A bar table and normal tables were placed in the hall area by smoothly segregating the boundary of the space using the step difference. In order to capture the concept of a ‘rainy night’, a wall with a dreamy and mysterious ambiance was created by reinterpreting the moment when rain flows on one wall that embraces the space. A service bar and kitchen are formed beyond the bar table, and a more independent booth space was created on the right side. The elevation of the bar table and booth space was made in the form of a round arch, creating a cozy feeling of having n umbrella up on a rainy night. The inner hall of OOMPH is located in the terrace space. The design of the wall that resembles a fogged-up glass window on a rainy day continues in the same context as the concept of the space, and is also a structure that conceals the outer wall of the adjacent building.

Rather than exposing the space on the roadside to attract many customers, OOMPH was designed to exist as a wine bar, as a space that only people who know about it can come to by creating a hideout where one can get lost in thought in the calm ambiance on a rainy night, and as a space with a special and secret charm, as is the meaning of the word OOMPH.

Wine & Bistro OOMPH는 동작구 상도동의 오래된 정취가 느껴지는 거리에 위치하고 있다. 이 프로젝트는 재개발로 인해 이 거리 특유의 분위기를 잃기 전에 색다른 매력을 가진 아지트를 골목길에 숨겨두고 싶었던 클라이언트의 바람으로 시작되었다.

익숙한 풍경의 대로변에 존재감을 드러내는 입구 너머로 비밀의 정원과도 같은 통로가 자연스럽게 공간으로 인도한다. 통로 끝에 묵직하게 놓여있는 바위는 OOMPH의 상징적인 오브제 역할과 동시에 공간의 진입을 알려주며 호기심을 불러일으킨다. 리모델링 전 건물은 1950년대에 지어졌으며 사방으로 건물들이 둘러싸고 있어서 자연스럽게 은닉할 수 있는 조건으로 은밀한 분위기를 간직한 사이트였다. 클라이언트는 이곳에 비밀공간과도 같은 아지트를 모티브로 와인바를 설계하고자 하였고, 우리는 이를 토대로 ‘비가 내리는 밤’이라는 컨셉으로 협소한 부지위에 상징성을 드러내며 운치를 품은 와인바 OOMPH를 만들게 되었다.

출입로에서부터 자연스럽게 이어지는 라운지는 바닥의 마감을 같은 벽돌로 통일하여 외부를 내부로 끌어 들이며 동선을 유도하고, 소파 테이블의 레벨을 낮추어 편안한 분위기를 연출하였다. 단차를 통해 공간의 경계를 부드럽게 구분하여 홀의 영역에 바 테이블, 일반 테이블을 배치하였다. 비가 내리는 밤’의 컨셉을 담아내고자 공간을 아우르는 한쪽 벽면에는 빗물이 흐르는 순간을 재해석하여 몽환적이고 신비로운 분위기의 벽면을 연출하였다. 바 테이블 너머로는 서비스 바와 주방을 구성하고, 우측으로는 좀 더 독립적인 분위기의 부스 공간을 조성하였다. 바 테이블과 부스 공간의 입면을 둥근 아치 형태로 조성하여 비오는 밤에 우산을 쓰고 있는 듯한 아늑한 느낌을 자아냈다. OOMPH의 안 쪽 홀은 테라스 공간에 위치하고 있는데, 비오는 날의 유리창에 김이 서린 듯한 벽면의 디자인은 공간의 컨셉과 같은 맥락으로 이어지며, 인접한 건물의 외벽을 가리는 구조물이기도 하다.

OOMPH는 대로변에 공간을 노출하여 많은 고객들을 유입하기보다는 비가 내리는 밤, 고즈넉한 분위기로 사색에 잠길 수 있는 아지트를 만들어 아는 사람만 찾아올 수 있는 공간, OOMPH라는 단어의 의미가 그러하듯 특별하고 은밀한 매력을 가진 공간, 와인바로 존재할 수 있도록 디자인 되었다.
