Public Square <Shukusai no Hiroba>

This plaza was created on the site of a former shopping district near JR Oita Station, and serves as a place where people can relax, enjoy events and festivals, and infuse vitality into the bustling streets of Oita City. The design of the plaza draws inspiration from the gantry cranes of the coastal industrial area, which played a role in Oita's development after the war. It also incorporates spaces from Japanese shrines and temple precincts closely associated with festival celebrations and performing arts, translating them into a modern urban plaza. The designer referenced the ancient Japanese concept of "Himorogi" to develop a dynamic and ever-changing public space.

이 광장은 JR 오이타역 근처의 이전 쇼핑 단지 부지에 조성된 것으로, 시민과 방문객 등 누구나 머물면서 휴식을 취하고 이벤트와 축제를 즐기며, 오이타시의 번화가에 활력을 불어넣는 곳이다. 광장은 전쟁 후 오이타의 발전을 책임졌던 해안 산업 지역의 갠트리 크레인을 디자인 모티브로 설계됐다. 또한, 축제가 열리고 공연 예술과 밀접한 관계가 있는 일본 신사 및 사원 경내의 공간을 현대적인 도시 광장에 풀어냈다. 디자이너는 일본의 “히모로기”라는 고대 개념을 참조하여 고정되지 않고 끊임없이 변화하는 공공 공간을 제안했다.
