Maruya Corporation Head Office Phase I&II

Maruya Corporation is a maintenance and recycle company mainly caring about cement plants.  According to the expansion of their business, they decided to make their new head office by renovating the existing steel warehouse.  Soon after the completion they decided to marge their group companies and expand the office. The issue was how to use the large interior volume of the warehouse for the office function.  We categorized the required functions into three different spaces: working, meeting, and storing.  Into the existing steel frame we inserted a small concrete box, which inside is used for working space with constant air conditioning, and which surroundings are for others with occasional air conditioning.  These two spaces are gently partitioned by fabrics. As an extension we added a simple concrete box to the steel warehouse volume.  In order to utilize the natural light, we introduce skylights with reflectors.  The connection part between Phase I and II is used for a communication area with a cafe function.

마루야 주식회사는 시멘트 공장을 중심으로 운영되는 정비·재활용 회사다. 사업이 커지면서 기존의 철강창고를 개조해 새 본사를 만들고, 그룹을 합쳐 사무실을 확장하는 두 단계에 걸친 건축을 진행했다. 창고를 개조하는 단계에서는, 사무실로 사용하기에 매우 큰 창고의 부피를 어떻게 활용하느냐가 쟁점이었다. 작업, 회의, 보관의 3가지 용도에 따라 공간을 분할하고 콘크리트 박스를 삽입하며, 각각의 작업공간을 나눠주었다. 철골 프레임과 콘크리트박스 사이는 천이 부드럽게 가로막는다. 사무실을 확장할 때도 콘크리트 박스를 추가시키며 진행했다. 자연광을 끌어들이는 반사경은 내부를 비춘다. 새로이 추가된 공간과 기존 공간 사이에 카페로 커뮤니케이션을 유도했다.
