Message from the Sky

When designing this house, the client’s request was to build a “house where you can feel the sky”. In the congested environment of Tokyo, the answer to this request was to increase the inflow of daylight using ambient light.
Whether it's a clear sky on a cool morning, bright sunshine in the summer, a blue sky at dusk, clustered snowflakes, or droplets of water after rain, the sky is always changing, and the image you see in the mirror repeats infinitely. At one moment, the light creates intricate patterns on the walls and at another, the sky is painted like the colors of the ocean. In each moment, the message from the sky seems clear. This house is a filter that turns the sky into an abstract painting.

건축주는 이 집을 설계할 때, “하늘을 느낄 수 있는 집”을 지어달라고 요청했다. 도쿄의 혼잡한 환경에서 이 요청에 대한 대답은 톱라이트(Ambient Light)를 이용하여 채광을 늘리는 것이었다. 시원한 아침의 맑은 하늘, 여름의 밝은 햇살, 황혼의 푸른 하늘, 뭉친 눈송이, 비가 온 뒤의 물방울과 같이 하늘은 시시각각 다양하게 변하며, 거울 속으로 보이는 이미지는 무한하게 반복된다. 어떤 순간에는 빛이 벽에 복잡한 패턴을 생성하고, 어떤 순간에는 바다의 색처럼 채색된 하늘을 보여준다. 매 순간의 하늘에서 오는 메시지는 우리에게 구체적으로 다가온다. 이 집은 하늘을 추상화 하는 필터다.
