Mojo House is a duplex house on small site for two families. It has advantages of using the ecological park of the front side as a front yard and could overlook Bukhan-river in 3, 4th floor height. The house has a monolithic form and two units are not visually distinguished. However, contraction between the exterior and interior space is accentuated by the windows along the diagonal of the site boundary. As it adjoins to the Yangsuri Ecological Park, it harmonizes with the surrounding nature with the simple form and, at the same time, absorbs the diverse colors of the nature with its white body.

Mr. Mo, who loves wood as his hobby is carpentry, stacked layers of laminated wood to make one solid tread. He fixed these double-sided treads onto thin steel plates to create a stable, yet transparent staircase. As a result, the staircase room serves as a breathing space for the building the 2nd floor through the attic. The attic serves as a bedroom for the couple, so the terrace in front of it is designed as more intimate space. The gentle ridge of Woongil Mountain far away is pictured within the widely extended frame.

Mr. Jo’s staircase takes a form of straight staircase. The steel plates were bent and steel pipe railings were attached to them. The straight staircase has inconvenience of long circulation, but it adds depth to the space. By exposing the concrete wall and stripping the finish of the wall, width of the staircase is secured more as much as the depth of the finish. The raw texture of the steel staircase and the concrete wall show off their role as the backbone of the house. The terrace in front of the loft, which is being used as a study room opens up the wall to overlook the park and installed transparent rail. It’s the space where the personal tendency to greet nature more actively, and it has contrasting characteristic with the mock terrace. The landscape is different everywhere by making a difference to the height and length of the stacked windows. The 3rd floor’s living room has planned to contain close-range parks’ landscape which could be seen when sitting on the sofa or table, and the 4th floor’s bedroom has planned to trim park landscape and contain the ridge of Woongil mountain in distant view. It’s a compensation of being laborious by going up and down the stairs, and we hope it could be a refresh to the daily life.

모조 하우스는 작은 땅에 세워진 듀플렉스 형태(땅콩집)의 집이다. 30평의 땅은 앞의 생태공원을 앞마당처럼 쓸 수 있고, 3~4층 정도에서 북한강을 조망할 수 있다는 강력한 장점을 가지고 있다. 모조 하우스는 형태적으로는 두 세대가 육안으로 구분되진 않지만, 사선의 대지 형상을 따라 형성된 외벽과 내부 공간의 어긋남은 창으로 두드러진다. 양수리 환경생태공원과 붙어있기 때문에 단순한 형태로 주변 자연과 조화를 이루면서도 건축물 외벽의 백색을 통해 변화무쌍한 자연의 색을 받아낸다.

목공이 취미일 만큼 나무를 좋아하는 모씨는 집성목을 포개, 통목을 만들어 계단의 디딤판을 만들었다. 양감 있는 계단 판을 얇은 철판에 고정하여 안정적이되 투명한 계단을 만들었고, 계단실은 다락부터 2층을 관통하는 숨구멍이 됐다. 다락을 부부의 침실로 사용하기에 다락 앞 테라스는 좀 더 내밀한 공간으로 계획됐다. 멀리 완만하게 펼쳐진 운길산의 능선은 가로로 길게 찢어진 액자를 만들어 담았다.

조씨네 계단은 직선의 계단 형태를 취한다. 철판을 절곡하여 계단을 만들고 난간에 매달았다. 직선의 계단은 동선이 길어지는 불편함은 있으나 공간에 깊이를 더해준다. 계단 벽의 마감을 걷어내고 콘크리트를 노출함으로써 마감 두께만큼 계단의 폭을 더 확보할 수 있었다. 철재 계단과 콘크리트 벽 등 날 것의 느낌은 계단이 이 집의 중심 뼈대임을 드러내고 있다. 서재로 쓰이는 다락 앞 테라스는 공원을 내려다볼 수 있도록 벽을 오픈하고 투명한 난간을 설치했다. 더 적극적으로 자연을 맞고 싶은 개인의 성향이 드러난 공간이며, 모의 테라스와는 대비되는 성격을 가진다. 적층된 각 층의 창의 높이와 길이에 변화를 주어 창에 담기는 풍경은 저마다 다르다. 3층의 거실은 소파 또는 식탁에 앉았을 때 보이는 근경의 공원 풍경을 담도록 계획됐고, 4층의 침실은 공원 풍경을 트림하고 원경의 운길산의 능선을 담아내도록 계획됐다. 층을 오르고 내리는 수고스러움에 대한 보상이며, 일상의 환기가 되길 바랐다.
